A JUDGE has refused to try Newcastle skipper Kevin Nolan for an alleged speeding offence - because he is a big fan of the team.

Judge Stephen Earl told a court hearing in North Shields that he did not want to appear "biased" in the case.

The decision could delay the trial, due at the end of December.

Nolan, 28, denies driving at 65mph in a 30mph zone in Newcastle.

However, Judge Earl IS handling the drink-drive trial of troubled ex-Toon legend Paul Gascoigne.

Gazza, 43, missed a court date and was warned he faces Christmas behind bars.
