khay 10
Has it started? If key players get themselves injured and suspended then yes we will slide. But I've seen enough to give me hope of staying up.
manc-mag 1
Can we at least take a balanced enough view to say that this has been predicted? It's not some alarming unforeseen slide that can't be accounted for, everyone has said we've managed to get a decent enough first team together, but that theres nee strength i depth and as soon as key personnel are lost, we'll struggle. Well that has been borne out entirely as forecast. We weren't going to win the league; we have to build on the positives and address the negatives. Nyff 0
We've got to remember that what we want to do here is stay up. Yes it would be great to finish above the Mackems and in the top half, but right now, with the lack of depth we have, anything about the bottom three is all we ask for (and was all that we were asking for at the start of the season). The win over Arsenal and the Mackems perhaps made us a little bit starry-eyed. But I agree with Khay. We've definitely seen enough of the class which should keep us up. manc-mag 1
Why you're not supposed to take pride in and enjoy the wins over Arsenal and the Mackems astonishes me. Where that has been construed as some sort of deluded Champions League expectations is just sheer misrepresentation.
ChezGiven 0
Not yet, tough run of games coming up though. If we have 25+ points by January, we should be alright.

The commonly held view that Newcastle fans win one game and think they're going to win the league and lose one game and turn on the players. We might very well be in a patch where we dont amass many points for a while now due to suspensions and tough games. At least we're not going into that patch rock bottom of the league though. 'Slide'. This is the Prem. It's our first season after promotion and we have a very much better than anticipated first team and no squad to speak of. That means it's going to be ups and downs all over the shop. What did anyone realistically expect; winning every game we played?

Problem Child 0
We’ve shown enough so far to be confident of avoiding the drop, but confidence is the thing. Lose it and football becomes a very difficult game. The team will obviously be hell bent on putting the Bolton result behind them against Chelsea, if they then get stuffed the belief they gained by coasting through the CCC may well be seriously damaged. Our aim has to be clear of the relegation fight before the run in. If we’re not all it takes a bit of bad luck or a crap refereeing decision and you can be in deep shit. Can we do it? As long as Carrol doesn’t get injured, sold or imprisoned we should be ok.
KingKev 0
My opinion hasn't changed from day one. West Ham, Wolves and one of WBA, Blackpool & Wigan are likely to go down. Finish somewhere between 12th and 17th and I'm happy.

Need to get something out of our next three games, christmas doesn't look better with Man City, Spurs (and the little matter of Wigan away.....).
