Monroe Transfer 0
Is the most pointless professional footballer I've ever seen. And he's one of our higher wage earners. And Hughton came out and said he wanted to keep him. Never has a smilie felt so appropriate.
Asprilla 96
Hughton can hardly say he wants rid in public can he?
TicTacWoe 0
he's probably just trying to get as much money for him as possible with comments like that
Monroe Transfer 0
Hughton can hardly say he wants rid in public can he? Agreed, but then I didn't say he couldn't. I certainly get the impression that he'll be staying with us for a while yet,
Holden McGroin 6451
No-one is going to buy him on the wages he is on now. The only way he'll go is if (a) someone wants him ( he'll take the pay cut to play regular football. He has another 18 months on his contract as well. KingKev 0
Vice-captain, my arse. Get rid in Jan (maybe Fat Sam?) IF we replace him. Big if then I know. Edited November 20, 2010 by KingKev

OTF 7214
I'd rather we ship him and pay the difference on his wage wherever he goes for the next 18 months.

Guest alex
No incentive for him to leave though, is there? Regular first team football ? Doubt that would be an incentive tbh. He's played in the CL for Leeds, etc., played for Man Utd. , i.e. been there and done it, and he's basically a Championship-level player. I suppose he could go to Leeds with 6-12 months left on his contract if we let him go without a fee. Even then though he'd lose a canny bit of money unless he got a substantial signing on fee. Might as well sit on the bench here.
Holden McGroin 6451
Difficult one. If he has earned enough money (which he clearly has) then wanting to play football might be top of his agenda. Not sure what i'd do under the circumstances. It depends on his goals tbh and whether he has half given up on football.

manc-mag 1
Literally might as well start a man short. Literally.
Howay 12496
agreed manc-mag I think it speaks volumes that noones said something like "we should keep him just to keep depth" because surely lads in our reserves and youth teams cant do much worse than he does in games as he's completely anonymous until he wipes out an opposing player in a key position making us all wish he'd stayed anonymous. If there's one person who would pay him the wages he is on here though it'd be fat sam. It said in the paper today newcastle face a "battle" for smith with stoke, wolves, blackburn and boro after him! TicTacWoe 0
I really wish CH wouldnt play him ever, this way even Sam and Pulis can see how fucking useless the silly git is nowadays, at least on the bench they can imagine that he might have something left to offer... Guest alex
The effect it must have on someone like Guthrie, i.e. Smith getting about 40x more a week and starting ahead of him in CM, can't be great.
Giraffidae 0
there’s one good reason he won’t leave us = £5,000,000* = what he has to pick up in wages for the next 18 months. he would have to sign a new 4 year contract on £24k p.w. just to match that. (*based on the £65k p.w as reported)
Guest WDP
I've never liked him, he wasn't even that good at Leeds. All his goals there seemed to be tap ins, and since he moved in to that defensive midfield role at Man Utd he's seemed to revel in this hard man image when there's fuck all hard about him. He's a mug. I've been going to the toon for 25 years now, and he's easily in the 20 least gifted players I've ever seen in black n white. What pisses me off about him is the praise he gets, "Smith has done a brilliant job for us in there.", Amdy Faye done no worse than him and got vilified. He can't run, pass, head, dribble he's shit. The only thing he has is he knows where to stand. He's so shit the crowd are amazed when he puts a good tackle in. Sooner that Yorkshire leech is away the better. Agreed, he scored two good goals against us about 40 years ago but he was massively overrated at Leeds (imo) and I couldn't believe Manchester United went in for him, half thinking it must have been out of spite due to the rivalry and he being the local hero. His reputation is a myth partly based on people hoping he would be the new Shearer as he put himself about a bit.

I remember that one he scored after 20 seconds, was a brilliant goal to be fair, but we won 3-1, one of my favourite toon games ever that, had to meet my Leeds supporting brother in law after the game, what a bitter cunt he was that day "two shit sides" when we absolutely battered them. Think the other one you're talking about was a night game top corner volley down the Gallowgate. He doesn't drink neither which says it all.
