Guest alex
My dad was suggesting, rather than London to Perth to Sydney to London, I should do a "round the world" and go Ldn-Pth-Syd-LA-Ldn accommodation isn't an issue, it's only really travel and spending costs I need. That's doing it the wrong way round btw, i.e. you're getting the worst effects of jet-lag by flying east all the way round.

I had a look on the STA site but it appears you need to be a student, or under 26.

Kid Dynamite 6964
Nice one, is that with Qantas? Never been to LA but apparently its not a patch on San Francisco Flying to far flung places is a lot more doable now. I got 5 days at Caesars including flights to Vegas for £500. Hardly spent a penny when I was there as all the casino drinks are free! One of my mates has just booked 5 nights in a shithole hotel in Magaluf for his stag do. £350! Add on your £30 to get into BCM and £5 a pint and theres no difference in the cost
Holden McGroin 6452
Where did you get that deal? Oh and if you get a pint in Vegas it'll be about £5 in Vegas. Not that you should count expenditure in Vegas...
Kid Dynamite 6964
Expedia, went back in April. A pint will cost you $1 tip for the waitress in a casino btw.

He knows the area so I'm hoping to avoid uber touristy places and just have a few days in the sunshine and seeing an old friend.

Hardly spent a penny when I was there as all the casino drinks are free! Ours was £555 for 7 nights staying at Imperial Palace (for location more than anything). Wish I'd known sooner that it was going to be so much cheaper than I thought, always figured it'd cost thousands. Still managed to spend a canny bit on drink though as we didn't sit and gamble a great deal.

The Fish 10669
Don't waste a day going to the Grand Canyon. ? why not? Everyone I've spoken to says it's one of those places which doesn't fail to impress when you see it in real life.
ewerk 30164
Don't get me wrong, it is impressive but after ten minutes you're bored. Not worth a 12 hour round journey if that's what it is.
Kid Dynamite 6964
You get to stop at the Hoover dam on the way and theres a canny little roadhouse half way there too.

I'm wondering if it's worth stopping at Grand Canyon Village or somewhere between there and LA on the return leg? Do the 6 hours there and some of the journey back in one day maybe? Also looked at Monument Valley, but I reckon that's too far.
Rob W 0
If you are going by road go to the Grand canyon and then on to Vegas - the problem at the GC is that unless you take a walk down into it or fly down it all you can do is look at it
Jill 0
Didn't fancy the Grand Canyon myself, there were loads of people flogging helicopter trips but I don't see the point in seeing something from the air and in the end we agreed it wasn't worth taking up a day going there by road. I'll have a look on Google Maps instead.

Rob W 0
Mrs W saw it from the air on a flight from Las Vegas and reckoned it was more impressive than from the ground - you fly down the middle and se a lot more - but not good if you suffer from vertigo
