manc-mag 1
Someone mentioned materials are probably about 3 times higher now too. Though having said that no doubt you could get a better tender on everything else given that construction firms have got no business these days. manc-mag 1
I think (can't remember for sure if I'm truthful) there's quite a lot more seats added in the corner and the Leazes than were added in the Milburn Level 7. If it was half and half though it would mean there'd be 7.5k extra seats-ish. Say it's a bit more than that and it would take the capacity over 60k. As has been said it would look awesome. Nah you're right theres pure more in the corner and Leazes 7 than Milburn 7 alone. I don't think Milburn 7 is as small as 3k though. Just stunning either way. Need to remember that there's those 'odd' boxes in the Gallowgate/Milburn corner too. Would they stay or not? Don't think they'd stay. They protrude into the seating regime dont they (ie they're not flush to the overall 'sweep' of the ground). You couldn't have that arrangement if there was seating behind as well. Depends if you're talking small outfits or the large construction firms. The bigger fish are all still doing fairly well - although they've had to diversify. Matt 0
The problem with super-competitive tenders is that the firm quite often doesn't stay in business long enough to see out the project.

peasepud 59
Plans exist, the metro does not pose any structural issues as the piles for the stadium would miss the rail lines even though they would pass through the station. Ashley mothballed the ideas within the first 6 months of taking over. Furthermore we barely fill the current stadium at present so there's no real incentive to proceed with it although I've always advocated the idea of increasing the capacity and reducing the ST costs. A shyster like Ashley is never going to do it though. Not financially viable at present either which is probably the most decisive factor. My understanding was that there is planning permission to build there however the cost of strengthening the metro etc makes it a no go, this is allegedly why Ashley bought the club, the plans for a super casino made it look like a great investment however after purchase and digging further he found he'd been shafted. Monkeys Fist 43241
I've seen the above mentioned plans, or a version of them. They included retail units under the extended Gallowgate, which would extend over the road into the Metro. Can't see it happening under Fatboy, besides, could anyone bear to sit in the "Ashley" stand?

smoggeordie 0
If it ever happened, they should just fuck off any corporates in the Gallowgate and make it one monster of a single tier. Would be the best stand in European football if they did.

Would be the best stand in European football if they did. Sadly. The extra bunce from the boxes on match day would probably be the main motivation for doing it.... If it ever did happen which tbc is looking unlikely. The only way I can see the idea even floated again is if we reassert ourselves as a top 4 or 5 side under an ambitious new owner. Neither looks like happening any time soon.

Rob W 0
a couple;e of years back people showed what SJP would look like with the stands extended right round - amazing we'd need 75,000 to fill it perhaps groundshare with Gateshead............... Neither looks like happening any time soon. Not to point out the obvious, but if you were to adopt the same design (above) and make it into a single tier, either a) you'd end up with a smaller stand or you'd have to alter the gradient of the existing Gallowgate, meaning the stand would be way too steep. I think SJP is already one of the steepest in the league (around all sides apart from the Milburn anyway). I remember years back someone suggesting digging down deeper to increase capacity (as sometimes happens with stadiums that have running tracks round them etc) completely ignoring the fact that we wouldnt have a pitch to play on if that method was adopted at SJP. Happy Face 29
Never knew Sainsbury's bought the land.... This time last year [Hanro] spent more than £1m buying famous Tyneside pub The Strawberry, saying it was the final piece in the jigsaw for its proposed multi-million-pound, mixed-use development on the surrounding land. Hanro says there are no immediate plans to proceed with its £70m development on the site surrounding the pub. The firm has detailed planning permission for a 110,000sq ft office building, a 167-bed Travelodge hotel, car parking, retail and residential developments on land bordering Strawberry Place, Strawberry Lane, Gallowgate and Percy Street. http://www.nebusiness.co.uk/commercial-pro...51140-27666003/
Happy Face 29
Or is that restricted to the car park between the Strawberry and El Coto, leaving the gallowgate (metro and that) primed for Stadium expansion?
