Dell Boi 0
Hey guys I was bored at Uni so decided to photoshop Level 7 on the Gallowgate end to see what it would look like, and it got me thinking would this at all be possible? Obviously not in the near future but I mean 10-15 years time who knows, is there any listed buildings behind the Gallowgate that would prevent an extension like this? The only thing I can think of is the metro station.
manc-mag 1
Fucking awesome. The Metro station, the lie of the land generally and the astronomically prohibitive cost (given we dont need the seats anyway) all mean it's just a visually stunning fantasy. Still, visually stunning anyway. Top photoshopping too.
JawD 99
Well, you cant extend the east stand due to Leazes Terrace. But also the far end does have the metro station, car park and a road to contend with. Edited November 12, 2010 by JawD

JawD 99
There's Shearer's. I sometimes wondered if that could still be left. The road would run under the stadium leaving the shop and bar in place.

Aye well it was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the listed building question Not sure if the metro station is a problem like as it's well back from the stadium although obviously there's what's underground but I think that's also where the mooted casino was supposed to be so you'd probably have to think that it would be ok. The road is hardly used as well. I think the current extension cost a bomb though, with the corner bit between the Milburn and the Leazes End costing the most iirc. Dr Gloom 22293
we've had so many threads on this subject down the years. i always thought it was a shame that end wasn't extended at the same time the leazes and milburn level 7s were added. not much need at the moment. attendences unlikely to pick up unless we go on some kind of amazing run and we couldn't finance it anyway unless someone bought out ashley. so for now, it's justa pipe dream. good work opn the photoshop mind! Ketsbaia 0
It looks brilliant. It's been mooted loads of times, hasn't it? I know Shepherd had plans in place to extend it before Ashley came in. At the moment I can't see a point in it. We'd need to see an upturn in crowds to what it was when Robson was here to justify the cost and that's discounting acquiring the Metro station etc. I can't see Shearer's being an issue because I imagine if it was to be built it would be similar in design to the Milburn/SJH stands and there'd be a route underneath. Even if we did have to get rid it wouldn't be a fucking loss now, would it?
JawD 99
Tbf if they did want to extend the capacity Id rather see a form of safe affordable terracing ideally down the east stand. I also reckon that would attract a lot of supporters whop do not currently go as well as some (like me) that would move.

Guest alex
Should put it where the Milburn Paddock was then the people sitting there can go in the empty seats where the Platinum Club is now.
manc-mag 1
Guessing it would take capacity to about 60k. Which would make it a mirror image of Celtic Park and identical in capacity too. Only much, much, much more spectacular.

Dell Boi 0
Thanks for the compliments guys! It would cost a bomb but think of the benefits, no place for a sports direct sign that's for sure I personally thought it would take the capacity up to about 65,000k but could be wrong. Possibly a bit above 60k but not as high as 65 I can't imagine. The capacity rise when level 7 Milburn and Leazes and the corner went up was from 36k to 52k (16k) This would just be a corner and Gallowgate 7. If it went up to 65k (an increase of 13k) it would mean Milburn 7 was only around 3 thousand seats. Must be a few more than that I would have thought? Matt 0
I don't think the metro is much of an issue, it was used at the time as a good excuse why not to build out.

Guest alex
I think (can't remember for sure if I'm truthful) there's quite a lot more seats added in the corner and the Leazes than were added in the Milburn Level 7. If it was half and half though it would mean there'd be 7.5k extra seats-ish. Say it's a bit more than that and it would take the capacity over 60k. As has been said it would look awesome. Craig 6700
Plans exist, the metro does not pose any structural issues as the piles for the stadium would miss the rail lines even though they would pass through the station. Ashley mothballed the ideas within the first 6 months of taking over. Furthermore we barely fill the current stadium at present so there's no real incentive to proceed with it although I've always advocated the idea of increasing the capacity and reducing the ST costs. A shyster like Ashley is never going to do it though. Not financially viable at present either which is probably the most decisive factor.

Even if we did have to get rid it wouldn't be a fucking loss now, would it? yeh, a good mate of mine was doing some work for NUFC in the offices and Shepherd had a 3D model of the ground extended at the Gallowgate The Metro car park was owned by NUFC in those days, not sure if it still is. The idea was to build a hotel/casino on the car park and extend the ground to the roof level of the hotel, with the road running under the stand. With Ashley’s ambitions and the recession there is probably no chance of it happening anytime soon — unless the World Cup bid is won and there’s additional funding kicking around I guess! Nah you're right theres pure more in the corner and Leazes 7 than Milburn 7 alone. I don't think Milburn 7 is as small as 3k though. Just stunning either way.
