ChezGiven 0
What health benefits come from doing weights? As opposed to another type of aerobic / a.n.other type of healthy exercise? Are you lot doing weights to look good or because you think it makes you look hard?
McFaul 35
What health benefits come from doing weights? As opposed to another type of aerobic / a.n.other type of healthy exercise? Are you lot doing weights to look good or because you think it makes you look hard? I don't really do the weights. My body is too big and it wouldn't take much to look like a bouncer, me shoulders are already big enough, so what I do is about half the weight I can take, on me legs and stomach just toning it rather than building, concentrate more on cardio tbh. I think people who look like muscle laden freaks look like mugs anyway.

People should note however that it does weigh more than fat so it is possible to think you've gone a bit wrong if you do tone up a bit.

Are you lot doing weights to look good or because you think it makes you look hard? When you think that your body composition is basically either muscle or fat, why would you not do some sort of resistance exercise I guess? Plus as you get older, isn't your muscle tone supposed to deteriorate anyway, and consequently your metabolism rate declines and your body composition shifts in favour of fat. Doing something to maintain muscle prevents this from happening. I think there something to be said for having a degree of strength as well. ChezGiven 0
Thats one way of looking at it, the other is that its a narcissistic pursuit of body perfection It is true what you say though and i am actually planning on starting training soon, for a number of reasons but upper body strength being the main one. Gemmill 46064
There's undoubtedly an element of vanity, but in a healthy way I guess. Good luck with your training anyway. It'll be like the volleyball scene off Top Gun next time there's me, you and Jonny in the Trent. Alex can be the baldy sergeant telling us that our egos are writing cheques our bodies can't cash. Arm wrestles all round.

I don't mind the odd bit of exercise but only doing things I enjoy.
Gemmill 46064
Wanking your way to a six pack is not working though, is it. I quite enjoy weights tbh.

Renton 22004
Wanking your way to a six pack is not working though, is it. I quite enjoy weights tbh. I've got a pair of dumbells I was using to make my arms more muscley. Did about 10 minutes a day for a couple of months, then just couldn't be arsed any more. I've also got a contraption that was supposed to guarantee you a six pack. Did it fuck. Anyway, bottom line is I think I look OK with my clothes on and a bit shit without them on tbh. But then why should I care - only Mrs Rents and the Trent posse have to put up with that sight anyway.
Gemmill 46064
We're all going skins the next time I turn up. How can you do rock climbing without doing some sort of upper body training btw?

Yeah, that's a problem, I'm shit at it tbh (only done a starter course anyway, which was spoilt by my recent vertigo problems). Although it's much more in the legs than in the arms. Mind, you want to see some of these fuckers practically hanging upside down from the wall. I do need to gain some strength though, will just have to put up with the boredom. I agree if you let yourself go to much when you're older you're fucked as well, that's my motivation. Do you look physically different form the last time I saw you btw? I'm expecting you to look like a ginger He man now.

Dr Gloom 22177
More muscle = more calories burned, I s'pose. absolutely. the more muscle mass you have, the more quickly and efficiently your body will burn fat. you can do weights without beefing and bulking up. i use them mainly as a way of burning calories while not wasting away. an effective weight training session will burn as many calories and help shed as much fat as an effective cardio session. Jusoda Kid 1
I do weights but have to admit it bores the tits off me, in fact the gym as whole is boring as fuck. When I was there the other night there were two blonde twin sisters, stunning they were. The pair of them started using the cross trainers in front of me with their skin tight leggings pulled right up their geea's, it's the longest I've ever ran on the treadmill, I was mesmerised. Usually do three sets of 12, up my weight then 3 x 10, increase the weight then 3 x 8 of the most I can lift, I'm sure I used to me much stronger than I am now though, not sure what thats about.
