wolfy 12
When I first started out boxing, I was nervous and didn't think I had it in me to get to the top. I jacked it in a few times when I got a girlfriend, yet she encouraged me to actually go back and do it. I got on well with an old bloke who was training other lads and we became good friends as he saw something in me and really worked me hard , plus encouraged me. I actually got a fight in Russia against this big bloke who you could see clearly trained like mad, yet I chose to use the old training methods , not the machine stuff some were using. I can still remember our lass surprising me, coming out to Russia as I was training...in the snow as well, which cheered me right up and I got to work getting as fit as possible, running up hills and small mountains. I'm sure I was getting watched like. Anyway, I get into the ring and saw the size of the bloke and thought, 'oh shit' but I was in so I had to fight. The Russian beat the shit out of me and made me look like Frankenstein and I was seeing triple vision, never mind double, yet when the trainer was shouting at me, it sounded like he was talking in slow motion like a frigging Lions voice (if Lions could talk) I remember I must have looked beat and as I was laid on the deck, I could hear the growly Lion type slow motion voices going, 'W....0......L......F...Y...........G......E........T......U.......P...... Anyway, I did get back up and somehow I managed to beat the shit out of the Russian, which eventually had the Russians shouting my name.....WOLFY, WOLFY, WOLFY. So there you go Dr Gloom, never underestimate yourself, anything is possible..... Be right back, my robot has just brought me a nice cup of tea in. wolfy 12
Prediction - Wolfy hasn't done that. Correction. Wolfy has boxed. Years ago I admit but I still done it for a few years and had a few bouts. Not recognised by any board or anything, just local contests which meant nothing really. Gejon 2
it was my first proper session sparring. instructor said to go at 20 per cent. the step up from pad work to sparring felt big. real boxing is a whole different ball game. i take it you've been in the ring before? were you not a little shook up the first time you sparred? They're an in the ring because they want to be there, if you hit them too hard you will know about it from them or the trainer and as long as you aren't going silly they will understand. I have been caught a few times in the face when doing body shot sparring and I know it's either through fear or just a complete accident. Most sparring will have been hit a lot harder (especially if you are only going at 20% at the moment) so you really don't need to worry. It gets easier and you get a lot more used to being hit. Howmanheyman 32595
He's heavier than me and half a foot shorter man. He's half man half hippo. Jonny, sympathise with your situation. I haven't been able to get our running for a couple of weeks and its sending me daft so a year off, or whatever you've had, must be rough. Like Gemmill I know when you get into a good habit like running then it's a serious pain in the arse when injuries prevent you from doing it. Had something a while back called (I think) IBT which played havoc everytime I tried running as my knee would be in too much pain. It's sorted now but the frustration as you couldn't 'pay off' the drink and letting your hair down and could almost feel your gut growing was hard going. Hope Tooj can get it sorted. (I also suffer from a dodgy back which can be fine for a couple of months then just 'go'). The best way for me to keep weight down is to get into a good habit, but shift work can make that nigh on impossible. For example I can finish work one night at 19:00 then be back on the following evening at 19:00, I can't get into a rhythm. My sleeping pattern is all over the shop and while I try to squeeze in exercise here or there it's not regular, so I'm not sure of the benefit. Add to that as good as 12hrs in an office chair. It's not great and that (as much as anything else) is pushing me towards looking for a 9-5 job. Understand this totally. I'm now on my official 2nd day off and I'm wide awake and have been for an hour. I've just ended up getting up and having a cuppa. Will no doubt be sleepy as fuck later on today/night and will struggle for motivation in whatever I do today, (Christmas shopping with the missus). JawD 99
I've chucked running like. I have dodgy knees, more so my right. I think excessive running started playing havoc with it last year and it got to the point where climbing stairs and more so coming down was a struggle. I had to chuck running and exercising my legs at the gym. A good few months rest sorted, no thanks to any of the doctors/specialists i saw. No I'm walking hills again, training my legs and playing squash but not running. Not more than 20mins on the treadmill anyway. Do more cycling now and cross trainer at the gym. Knee still twinges now and again. I'd fucked by elbow a bit back as well (own daft fault, twisted it putting a DB down when on my back). That took a good few months rest. Hate getting injured like. Completely knocks any routine which is what keeps me going mostly.
Dr Gloom 21756
just did kettle bell class with 24kg bell circuit included swing 60 seconds clean and jerk alternate right/left - 90 seconds figure of 8 (round the world) - 45 seconds kettlebell press up - 45 seconds burpee with kettlebell jump - 45 seconds one minute rest then repeat the circuit. 5 sets. ouch

wolfy 12
anyone tried crossfit training. lord have mercy I've tried crossfit dressing but only when our lass goes to the town like. I used to sneak some of her gear when I went midnight boxing training, on my own. I'd have her high heels on, stockings, a tight nob and ball hugging short skirt on and a low cut blouse, make up and a wig. I'd be skipping away looking at myself in a full length mirror, admiring my new look. Sometimes it got too much and I'd turn my back on the mirror, twisting my head round to look back at my tight arse, whilst pulling the end off it. The things you do when your younger eh. Dr Gloom 21756
Burpees with a 24kg kettlebell? Fair play I was only doing about 5-6 reps in the final 45 second set. It's a fucking sick way to train. The main problem I have is breathing. It's so explosive; I was almost seeing stars during one rest.

Still pretty impressive, not sure I would manage one It's a choking hazard but I use cough sweets for training, clears the airways and for some reason helps me concentrate more. Or try training with a gumshield in, obviously not intense training like that at first but it gets you used to breathing through your nose and keeping it constant.
