Possibly Halls best move was to sell up to Feddy Shepherd IMO as he provided more entertainment than the team.

This from the guy who was supposed to have done a bit of research on us.

This kid who was in the year above me at school was the double of Fenton. Used to get started on in the Toon and everything. He's a knob like.

Fentons a teacher in Whitley Bay now

I meant the kid who went to my school was a knob btw. Wasn't Fenton at Blyth Spartans for a while?

Big Sam defends Toon time - Rovers boss not bitter about short St James' Park tenure

Sam Allardyce has defended his Newcastle United tenure ahead of Blackburn Rovers' trip to St James' Park on Wednesday night.

The Rovers tactician spent just eight months on Tyneside having built his reputation following an impressive eight-year spell with Bolton Wanderers.

Allardyce won just eight of his 24 games in charge of The Magpies losing 10 before being sacked after failing to win over the Newcastle faithful.

The 56-year-old insists he was not given enough time by the club's hierarchy, although he has no bitterness towards the club for how he was treated.

"I have proved most of the time that when I get a football club it improves from where it was," explained Allardyce.

"That was going be the case at Newcastle but I was not given enough time, but there is no bitterness towards the club.

"I'm not sure that apart from Arsene (Wenger) and Sir Alex (Ferguson) anyone else has managed at this level for as long as I have.

"I take a huge amount of pleasure in having been able to sustain my ability in the best league in the world."

No grudges against Geordies - Allardyce

Sam Allardyce insists he has forgiven Newcastle for sacking him... because they coughed up a multi-million pay off quickly.

The Blackburn boss is set for a hot reception from Geordie fans tonight in his first game back at St James's Park since being axed, but says he "holds no grudges."

That's not surprising because sacking Allardyce and his backroom staff, in January 2008, cost Newcastle £4,597,000, according to club accounts, a handsome pay off that Big Sam has boasted bought him a new villa in Spain's Costa Blanca, called.... Casa St James's.

The Rovers chief reckons Newcastle fans are now "enjoying" seeing their club rebuilt after the "shock of relegation".

Allardyce was appointed two months before Ashley's takeover, and axed after spending a fortune on Alan Smith, Geremi, David Rozehnal, Habib Beye and Jose Enrique, with fans turned off by his brand off football.

He said yesterday: "I have no regrets. I don't hold any grudges against Newcastle because they treated me the right way and settled the compensation almost immediately.

"It was bitterly disappointing at the time because I felt we were just getting a good feel for it.

"The backroom staff was in place and we were just about ready to start making the squad stronger.

"Actually getting relegated was a shock for Newcastle fans.

"Now they are coming back and building again. They will be looking forward to enjoying the success and rebuilding."

Allardyce actually gave Andy Carroll his debut in the FA Cup goalless draw against Stoke that was his last game in charge, as Ashley, who then used to stand in the away end with fans, realised he had a spectacularly unpopular manager.

Allardyce had a backroom staff of 20-plus during his spell at Newcastle as he tried to establish a long term scientific approach.

In contract Hughton is a one man band, helped by goalkeeper coach Paul Barron, a fitness coach, and Steve Stone who has stepped up from coaching the reserves.

Hughton is in a battle to appoint his own No2, but has no long term deal of his own which isn't helping the search.

He said: "There have been ups and downs since Sam was here. When Sam was here, this club would probably have been around 14th. That's all I can really speak about. That is where we were then. We have gone through troubled times since then and worked very hard to try to get back to a level of consistency which will perhaps again see us as a stable Premier League side.

"Was relegation a blessing in disguise? The last thing you want from a club is to get relegated but I think in some way, it has helped us. What it has allowed us to do is put things in perspective. It has allowed the club to regroup, it has allowed the club to make some harsh decisions which have allowed us to get back on a sound footing again.

"And the most important thing was that we discovered the winning habit again last season. Last year was a real good season because although we were in a different division, we saw some real progress in players."

Allardyce says Kevin Nolan is the key to Newcastle's good start to the season, not just striker Carroll.

He said: "Their skipper is a good one on and off the field. People don't realise the importance of a unity of a group of players.

"Kevin along with the manager is very good at holding a squad together as well as playing very well.

"He is not only doing a good skippers job but doing a good job on the pitch himself.

"Everyone is talking about Andy, and rightly so, but Kevin is ahead of him. He has got seven goals from midfield and Andy has got six."

Yeah, player/assistant manager. He was pretty terrible though, makes you wonder how he got so many games in the premier league.

:suicide: I heard he was shite like. He did nowt for Blackburn like but you'd think he'd do a job at Blyth.

Tbf, Smith aside, we didn't grossly overpay for any of those players.

Allardyce wasn't responsible for the wages they were paid either.

Books were balance by the sales of Parker and Dyer too. Not Allardyce's biggest fan by any means but he didn't have a big net spend here iirc.

I really hope we do them.

Blackburn (well, allardyce) are another on a list of 'unfinished business' I would like to see concluded.

Mackems and Villa have already been crossed off the list. Bring on the frog-faced arse.

Caulkin with the body blow on Twitter

"Allardyce still bleating about "Geordie Messiahs" & "expectations." Which, while irritating, explains a lot. Like why he was sacked."

He followed that up with:

needed (needs) long-term but Sam's short-term unbearable. Didn't want to be Nufc manager; wanted fans to support Allardyce Utd.

much as I like caulkin's tweet's, these ones are a tad incoherent. He normally writes so well but this comes off as a stream of conciousness. Was he gritting his teeth when he typed, do you reckon?

Wavey Davey you scum bag

A WELL-KNOWN children’s entertainer has been charged over an alleged £30,000 benefit fraud.

David Simpson, better known as “Wavey Davey”, was subject of a 19-month probe by Department for Work and Pensions investigators.

The 44-year-old, who also works as a gymnastics instructor, is accused of wrongly claiming government handouts while insisting he has severe mobility problems.

News of the entertainer being charged will shock many Liverpool parents.

Simpson was renowned in the city as a popular juggler and balloon-maker at children’s parties.

He once won a silver medal at the “alternative” Commonwealth Games after the official 1992 competition in Edinburgh was boycotted in protest against apartheid in South Africa.

More recently, he ran a gymnastics class at Park Road leisure centre, in Toxteth.

The investigation centred on allegations Simpson wrongly claimed money over a nine- year period.

He received disability allowance after stating a road traffic accident left him with a longstanding injury which meant he could only walk 20 yards over a few minutes.

Simpson was watched over a period of time by investigators and had documents seized relating to work he undertook as an entertainer and his apparent “active lifestyle”.
