Anderlecht ace Jonathan Legear claims Newcastle have expressed an interest in acquiring his services.

Legear is highly-rated in Belgium after helping Anderlecht win the championship last season and scouts from several clubs across Europe have been monitoring his progress.

Magpies boss Chris Hughton is believed to have travelled to Belgium to watch Legear as he weighs up a bid in the January transfer window.

Legear claims Newcastle have contacted his agent about a possible move to England, but the 23-year-old is refusing to get carried away by the transfer speculation.

"Newcastle has contacted my agent to let him know they are interested in me," Legear told La Derniere Heure.

"I need to prove again and show if I have the level to play in the Premier League."

Reports in Belgium claim Everton are also keeping tabs on Legear with Toffees boss David Moyes having watched him on three occasions this season.

left or right?

Barton seems to be doing okay in that pos. but he's not a winger and whilst Spidey doesn't have much of an end product he does scare the shit out of defenders when he gets going.

It might be less suited or useful to his international game, but someone at NUFC should be taking him to one side and just practising crosses with him for an hour solid every day. Fail to see what else our training staff can usefully teach him that he cant/hasnt already acquired from far superior mentors so it'd be time well spent iyam.

Some of his crossing is ok, but when he's travelling at pace down the left and tries to whip a ball in with his left foot, he inevitably struggles. His successful balls tend to come when he's slowed down a bit. Personally I think his contribution this season has been good, I'm perfectly happy with him. You have to accept the weaknesses of some of our players (ie Routledge can't shoot/cross, but he can carry the ball a bit at pace) and just get behind them.

That's my point though, I actually rate him and want him to be a success. Thing is he does the bit you can't really teach (or at least we could never hope to teach him in England) really well so I would imagine it's a waste of time trying to coach him in most things, whereas if theres a part of his game that could be strengthened (and crossing is one such thing that genuinely can be coached) then I'd have him at it for ours tbh, all the more so with the aerial threat we pose these days.

Hopefully I'm just being naive and that's what they're doing anyway.

We're lacking in cover though, tbf.

True.

Just wondering where he'd fit in.

He's been linked with Everton and Liverpool in the last few months, supposed to be very good.

Shame the national set up is a shambles or they may do quite well.
