I've got an Xbox 360, a Sky+ box and a DVD/Home cinema box all using HDMI, but the tv only has two HDMI ports. Now, I presumed I'd be able to plud the xbox, the tv and the Sky+ into the Home cinema system through an HDMI splitter, to get the surround sound, but when I do, it doesn't recognise anything.

I switched it to the HC, the Xbox and the Sky going through the splitter into the tv and obviously I'm not getting the sound. Any ideas?

Do your speakers come directly out of your dvd player or is there an amplifier in there too?

If it's just the dvd player and it's not a recordable dvd player I can't imagine you'll get the x-box or sky+ to come out of those speakers.

You need a surround amp with 3 HDMI in connections.

Cheers, Happy. That sounds like the problem.

If I plugged phono - phono cable in, would that bypass the problem? Or again, would it require a separate Amp?

Afraid not. The phono connection is just so you can plug it into an amplifier if you have one I think.

Still, good excuse to go shopping.....

HF, don't quote the ignored!

Fish, there are a few Home Cinema Amps out there that only take HDMI as a video feed and not an audio, I've got one.

So you need to connect the audio separately via an audio cable, such as a co-axial or optical cable depending on what all your sources have available.

Either that or buy a better HC amp.

A make and model of the amp and it could be confirmed for you?

mmm, according to the UK LG site it only has HDMI out:

CONNECTIVITY

SCART connection Yes

AUX input Yes

Portable 3.5mm jack inout Yes

HDMI Out Yes

USB Yes

Composite Out Yes

Component Out Yes

http://www.lg.com/uk/tv-audio-video/home-c.../LG-HT305SU.jsp

And from their international site:

INTERFACE

Audio Line IN Analog Aux

Output Terminal(Front/Center/Rear/Subwoofer) Yes

Terminal Type Push-in

Video Signal OUT Composite 1

Video Signal OUT Component 1

Video Signal OUT HDMI Out Yes

Video Signal OUT 1080i, 720P (up-conversion) Yes

Video Signal OUT 1080p (up-conversion) Yes

HD AV Sync Yes

Portable In Jack(3.5φ) Yes

USB Jack Yes

Mic Jack (6.3φ 2mic Gold) Yes

Mic Volume Yes

Echo Volume Yes

External FM/MW Antenna Yes/Yes

http://www.lg.com/ae/home-entertainment/ho.../LG-HT305SU.jsp

So your HDMI from the amp is only video out, you can't plug devices into it with HDMI and it looks like all external audio in is analog - RCA probably.

Also it doesn't look like it can take video input in any form.

Here's the manual.
