Bellamy is world class

I hate the phrase world class, it's overused, and very often misused. Craig Bellamy is world class. He was easily in the best 5 players in the best league in the world last season, and tonight I know it's the Championship but he was fuckin amazing. Skill, pace (he's still got it), calling the ref a prick, influencing his team, skill, vision, if he's not world class I don't understand what world class means. He could play for any club in the world truly he could.

Fair enough he's an annoying twat, personality wise there's little to like about him, but put him on the pitch and you'll see who the star man is every time. If you're all honest as well he hardly had a bad game for the toon. Now imagine Carroll and him together now. We should've went all out to get him this summer. Cardiff have some decent players, not great but decent, but when you have a class player around you, you can make ordinary players look brilliant and that's what they were tonight. As soon as I heard he was playing I couldn't get to the bookies quick enough to stick Cardiff -1 on at 5s, and the scoreline of Leeds 0 Cardiff 4 was no surprise, just wish I had've been in London in my sisters front room watching it with the brother in law, he hates the toon, but not as much as I hate Leeds.

I still think we should do something to try and get Bellamy, he is a nob, but he's not all bad look at the time that muslim child was given 4 weeks to live when he was at the toon, Bellamy went round every day to play with him on his playstation and he lasted 6 weeks, and it was the lads family that publicised the story. I was talking to a taxi driver when we played Man Utd in Cardiff, and he was saying his son played for the same under 11 team as Bellamy and his team would win every game 10 and 12-0 Bellamy getting the lot sometimes but at that age he'd still be telling the referee to fuck off ;) Maybe you need that to be a winner, that unbelievable confidence in who you are, in what you can do. When he was 17 at Norwich on hearing Juninho got PFA Player of the Year, he told everyone that he was better than him, and he has been proven to be right. If he was English he'd be a global icon, and fuck what Liverpool fans say about his time there, he's been totally class at every club he's been at other than Coventry where he was stuck out on the wing. I really truthfully would be delighted if we could get him here, if we got 25 games a season out of him it would be worth it.

It could go two ways with Bellamy, he could decide that he likes playing for Cardiff and spend the rest of his career there (especially if they get promoted) or he could decide that he's been there and done that.

Either way I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of him in a black and white shirt.

We approached him in the summer apparently and we're roundly told to go forth and multiply.

Great, fantastic player but not 'World Class' IMO.

That was rumoured but I never seen a source. Told to go forth by who Manchester City or Bellamy?

By any definition world class in my view, forgetting his age there's not ten players in England I'd rather have. The fact he's Welsh is a hinderance to him and not just cos they're inbred mugs, if he played for a big football country you'd see him so much more highly rated. Man Utd wanted him this summer too.

I kept telling myself he'd come back eventually, can't see it happening now like. He's a great player, gave the team so much, extended Shearer's usefulness and genuinely excited the crowd.

He's apparently very active with his charity, rather than just being a figurehead.

I know he's got a bit of the arsehole about him, but I'd have 1 of him over a hundred Mike Williamsons and his ilk.

Williamson isn't a bad player he reads the game well, I can think of 10000 players who you could've used in an abusive sense above him. He's only played 7 premiership games, and he'll get better with more experience.

He did extend Shearer's usefulness I remember before he left the toon he said that it would hurt him to score against us cos he loved the club so much, then when he abused Shearer by text saying he was finished, all he was doing was speaking his mind, and as much as I don't want to slag Al off he was fuckin right. Shearer retired a season too late imo.

Bellemey was class, still is, one of the best players we've had in the last 20 years but for me world class means he should be able to get into any team in the world theoretically. Injuries and personality stopped him just short of becoming world class imo. Great player nonethelss, and you're right, if he was Spanish/Dutch/South American the media would've been jizzing off about him for years.

Yeah, not the best example, but I meant Mike's one of those instantly forgettable players who (as you noted) was dazzled by Old Trafford... could you imagine Craig Bellamy saying anything other than "Doesn't matter where I play, I'm fucking great... boyo". Mike Williamson never once thought he'd be a world beater, Bellamy did and that's kind of what made him as good as he is.

Still don't think I'm explaining the nonsense in my head like, but then I've been toasting my Nephew since I got in with a lovely few drops of Glenfiddich Speyside

World class?

;)

How many pints have you had?

Trust me, no world class player would be found playing in the Championship.

I don't need to trust you, you're from Lincoln, famous for Darren Huckerby and Lincolnshire sausage which is fuckin rank. Aye like he had a choice. Man Utd wanted him, Tottenham wanted him. I'd say George Best was world class and he played in the fuckin jock league. Is the OOT board down tonight like?

Bellamy from what I was told. City told him of our interest to take him on loan but he didn't want to know.

For the kind of wages we'd have to pay Craig Bellamy I'd prefer someone who isn't going to be injured every other week.

I think there's some level of romanticism involved with Stevie's assessment of Bellamy. Without doubt he's a very talented player, but 'World Class' means nothing beacuse everyone has a different assessment of what it means. Can't say he'd be in my side (or even close to it) if I was to pick a squad of 30 players from the Premier League.

Name 30 then and don't even think about saying Tim Cahill.

Too many bridges burnt RE: Return to St. James'.

He's a good player. One of the best forwards we've had in recent times, but he wasn't THAT good.

Was he not? He was the only reason we qualified for the Champions League twice, down turns in our form always coincided with his injuries, and you say he wasn't that good, he was brilliant, and he's got even better since leaving.

Bit of a difference between that an 'world class', stevie. Try as I might, I can't put him alongside such goalscoring greats as Pele, Henry, Zidane, Maradonna, Messi and the like.

He may have got better as a player since leaving, I don't honestly know/ (can't really say much on this as I haven't been watching too closely) but the fact that he's played for soooo many clubs since leaving us is a tad suspicious.

He never played for the clubs that they did. I remember when he was 22 he beat Italy who were one of the best three teams in the world then, he beat them literally on his own, and Maldini said he was the best player he'd played against. His resputation, attitude and mouth, stopped him from moving to the next bracket. If Berbatov is world class so is Bellamy, Tevez is not as effective as Bellamy imo, and he's branded "world class".

I would describe neither of them as world class myself, but your mileage may vary on that score. Hype and high-pricetags follow them two and pundits confuse that with 'great'.

I'm not denying he is a good player. I just think he's not quite there on the world class front. Plus, every time I think of him I think of his sending off vs. Inter and I start grinding my teeth. Make of that what you will.

Superb player. He was getting better too, before he left as he was a little raw with us at the beginning. Dictated play and started droppuing deep, like how Anelka does for Chelsea.

I think Caulkin said Bellamy turned us down.

As I've said before I think he's definitely underrated. World class is so subjective a phrase but I think he's probably pissed off too many managers, to the detriment of his own career, to have made it into that category. Debatable whether he would ever have been quite that good anyway. Class player either way though.

I was never confident of his finishing when he played for us, would get into positions one on one with the keeper time and again but his conversion rate into goals from there was poor. However, since then (especially last season) that aspect of his game has massively improved. I would agree with Stevie because if he was English he would have over 80 caps by now.... well, he's better than Defoe anyway.
