NJS 4411
I'm embarrassed by the amount of stick Bruce has been getting over all this, makes no sense to me. A lot of people have just used it as a chance to have a go at him for being a 'Geordie'. Really pathetic. He was always on a hiding to nothing going there though. Even if his "Geordieness" is tarnished by Manchester he has always played on it ("I'm coming home" etc) and even tried the "I followed Newcastle when I was a kid" routine in the run up to the match. He must know that even putting derbies aside, his "identity" will be the first thing mentioned at any kind of slip up. The derby just magnifies it. I'm not old enough to remember Stokoe's first spell at SAFC but I assume it was never mentioned he was Newcastle through and through. It's hard to think of an equivalent possible appointment for NUFC - even Allardyce's SAFC association was never used against him.

luckyluke 2
I heard an interview on 5Live just before the match and he kept banging on about being from the North East rather than Newcastle as he has done before. Sort of understandable but obviously a sly cunt who will shift his story to fit wherever he is. It shouldn't really be an issue because he clearly isn't a Newcastle fan. I remember Asprilla (of the formerly foreskin variety)'s comment on those photos in a Sunderland scarf when he was appointed there - "there is not a Newcastle fan alive who would allow themselves to be photographed like that. JamesD 0
Nor would they be caught supporting Man United in the '99 cup final. Try telling all this to a Sunderland fan who is absolutely convinced that Bruce is just a fat mag bastard. Once you're involved in football from a young age it's pretty much impossible to support any team. You're too busy playing games and training with another club to follow anyone else. The derby on Sunday was Bruce's first one he's ever watched I think (and the worst one he'll ever see). I know that if I stopped following Sunderland for 40 year I wouldn't feel the same about them again.

I remember Bruce being at the Tranmere match in 1992 (the 10 out of 10 match), pictured in a black and white scarf and queuing outside the ground. It was in the papers iirc. He was still a Man U mainstay at the time.

peasepud 59
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has taken a potshot at derby rivals Newcastle United. The Black Cats believe the Magpies did not show any class or humility after they won 5-1 in the Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park last weekend. Newcastle played the song ‘Daydream Believer’ over the loud speaker after the match with Toon fans singing “What can it mean to a sad Mackem b*****d and a s**t football team” during the song. Bruce said it was a fairly poor way to celebrate a win and plans on getting revenge in the next installment of the long-running rivalry. “Thankfully, I was down the tunnel by then but I did hear about it,” said Bruce. “It was probably typical of their etiquette. Hopefully, we can repeat the same dosage.” fat arsed bitter cunt, he'll be getting FTM tattooed on his forehead next.
NJS 4411
I called the T-Mobile call centre a little earlier which is in Mackem land. I spoke to a woman who sounded like she was in her 50s but there was still a little voice in the back of my head saying "Start screaming 5-1 at her" - just managed to resist. shackbleep 0
Bruce vows to make Magpies change their tune Steve Bruce has taken a swipe at Newcastle United’s “etiquette” after a derby day wind-up left Sunderland insulted as well as humiliated. The Sunderland boss and his players were serenaded off the St James’s Park pitch by the Monkees hit Daydream Believer. In a mass outbreak of community singing, Newcastle fans change the lyrics to: Cheer up Steve Bruce, oh what can it mean to a Sad Mackem B****** and S** football team.” The cheeky choice, made by United’s stadium DJ, went down a treat with the Geordies, but left Bruce and his players fuming, and yesterday he hit back with a warning to Newcastle. “It is 71 days until the next derby at our place, not that we are counting. I hope we can repeat the same dosage when they come to our place. It was typical of that club’s etiquette.” The insult follows a high-level Sunderland delegation who once had to endure seeing Mike Ashley lead a legendary boardroom Conga as a victory celebration. Bruce has been picking up the pieces of the 5-1 defeat, and did not speak to anyone for 48 hours. He fears Sunderland fans’ trust in his rebuilding job has been “blown away” by the crushing loss and openly admits he “might never recover” if there is a backlash against him. But Bruce is fronting up with fighting talk and hopes to “repairing” the damage against Stoke tomorrow, urging worried supporters to see the bigger picture. Bruce, chairman Niall Quinn and Sunderland players including Darren Bent, have all issued emotional apologies for the club’s worst result in years, but the manager’s candid words yesterday were the strongest recognition yet over the hurt the derby inflicted. “For all the good work I’ve done it’s just evaporated within days,” said Bruce. “I understand that. That is what the area is all about. “I know there will be people wanting me out of the door and I can understand that. They are probably as humiliated as I am and make no mistake, there’s nobody more hurt than I am. “We’ll all be reminded of it. We’ve got to live with it forever. I know I have some repairing to do. The trust that some people had in me has probably been blown away, which I can understand. “The mark of everything is how you respond. I try to get up off the floor and come out fighting. I didn’t speak to anyone for two days. You batten down the hatches, you take it, you try to be dignified and you try to respond, that is all you can do. “There is no hiding place for us. It has happened and we must not let it derail our season. We are making some sort of progress. We have played good stuff against some big teams. How do we respond? Get a result against Stoke, then we play two of the best teams in Europe, Spurs and Chelsea. “It is 70-odd days to the next derby. That is a motivating force. Some will see through it and see we have the nucleus of a decent young side that got their backsides kicked from naivety and inexperience. But they will learn from it.” Bruce is ready to make big changes to his starting line up. Asamoah Gyan has been told he starts. Craig Gordon wants a recall, although Bruce doesn’t blame deputy Simon Mignolet for any of the goals last weekend. John Mensah will come in for suspended Titus Bramble if he recovers from flu. Also Bruce could freshen up his midfield with Bolo Zenden in line to return, and Kieron Richardson is fit again and likely to start. Bruce added: “We have lost three times in 18 months at home. Yes we were badly beaten and we are desperately hurt but we have to put it into perspective. It was my worst defeat ever. It is gone, done and dusted.” http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Steve...icle621449.html Like a fucking 5 year old counting the sleeps until christmas.... he's totally bought into getting obsessed about everything Newcastle. Typical of that clubs etiquette, I'd like to see him expand on that like. If he had any dignity about him he would've taken that on the chin and just shut up. Surely he has more pressing things to worry about like his tactical and motiational deficiencies which were beautifully and brutally exposed 5 days ago. 71 days and counting Stevie son and you'll still be an ugly bitter bastard then as you always will be. Guest WDP
Compare Bruce's attitude with Reid's who when asked about the Monkey's heed thing said he "fucking loved it". Exactly. Mentioned this before, but Peter Reid after the 1-1 draw down there when they raped us, he was getting interviewed after the game by Sky onthe touchline. The whole toon end PEEEEEEEEEEEETER REIDS GOT A FUCKIN MONKEYS HEED.... so Reid stops the interview, pulls his lugs and sticks his tongue out at the toon fans quality quality crack. I love R-ea-d-ea personally always have. Bruce oh dear.

Yeah Reid always came across as a canny bloke to me, but Bruce is coming across as a sad little prick to be honest and its making the hammering we gave him even better the more he cries about it. And its good to know that he heard the songs and that they worked on him at the match!

I find it funny to hear the Mackems talk about class. Bobby Robson is nearly fucking dead, anyone? Very classy that and on another level to singing Daydream Believer.
