Reznor & Co. team with HBO for Year Zero series

Man, oh man, first my favorite comic, The Walking Dead, ends up on AMC, now one of my favorite albums is getting the TV treatment!

Year Zero, NIN's sixth studio album, presented a grim sci-fi portait of the year 2022, after a nuclear war between the US and Iran and the ascent of an American "Bureau of Morality". The LP was accompanied by an expansive online game and, eventually, a remix album. At the time, Reznor called it "the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist".

In a sense, that movie may yet come to exist. Reznor has partnered with Daniel Knauf, creator of the imaginative (and prematurely cancelled) TV series Carnivale, plus producers Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, An Inconvenient Truth) and Kevin Kelly Brown (Roswell). "It's been an interesting collaborative effort but I've learned that [television development] moves at a glacial pace," Reznor said. "It cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we're writing drafts back and forth."

Describing a possible TV series in 2008, Reznor said it would "ideally" run for two years. "It's the most exciting thing on the horizon," he said then. "It's the thing that when I wake up in the morning it makes me say, 'God it would be cool if that happened.'"

Dunno if y'all got into the album and the ARG that accompanied it, but there was some interesting fiction being generated. I look forward to see how this turns out. I was working 16 hour days when it was actually going on, so I totally missed out on all the discovery stuff, but here's a link to the master wiki page that hits the highlights and also gives links for the details- http://www.ninwiki.com/Year_Zero_Research

he seems to go off some random diatribe whenever something doesn't suit him

that being said, he does support filesharing

He gave away The Slip under Creative Commons. He's down with that kind of stuff. :icon_lol:

What random diatribe are you talking about? I've never really heard the guy speak out on much of anything other than the recording industry. I know he wasn't a big fan of Bush, but join the club, right?

Year Zero is one of your favourite albums?

Seriously?

Thought it was distinctly average especially when compared to Downward Spiral and The Fragile (but then again most albums look worse when compared to those 2).

I don't know man, I really got into it.

And yeah, Downward Spiral and The Fragile are both better, but I don't think NIN have ever made a bad album, in my opinion.

I suppose he's certainly not put a bad album per se, but The Slip, With Teeth and Ghosts don't really do much for me these days.

Pretty Hate Machine sounds pretty outdated now unfortunately and it feels too one dimensional compared to the 2 full lengths that followed it. Wouldn't hesitate to call them both masterpieces of their time.

Could be the fact that if PHM was a person, it'd be old enough to drink in the States now.

Ghosts is what it is- background noise for when I'm painting or playing games or whatever. The Slip isn't bad, but it's probably my least favorite. Still really like With Teeth though. Only is good stuff, Don't You Know What You Are is good stuff, I like basically everything on that album but the title track. Is it legendarily good? No, but shit, it's better than most of what came out in 2005 in my opinion.
