Besty 4
Finished last job end of March, went on JSA until May, handed P45 into new employers. Tax code wasn't sorted and I was on emergency so I rang up and requested a new P2 to be sent out which sorted that out but I'm still owed money. I asked my employers to see if they actually sent it in and they said they did it immediately so I can't really say anything more there! I've just rang up the tax office there and she told me to send my part of the P45 (from JSA) into them so they can do it themselves BUT, I lost it (probably binned it). Do I just ask for a P46 form from my employers and fill that in and that will sort? Just thought it would be quicker and cheaper asking on here rather than ringing them cunts back up! JawD 99
Im guessing, but Id think if you hand in the P46 that would let them calculate your tax up to the end of that tax year and decide from that what your new tax code should be taking into account new employment and previous tax paid? Besty 4
That's the thing, they've sorted my tax code (it's now 647LX) after I asked for a P2 sent out but they've put it on a weekly basis (or something) until they receive my P45. All I'm after now is the money I'm owed from when I was on emergency, but again, they've said they need my P45 (which they should have)!

Besty 4
You can't get copies of P45's can you? Not being arsey btw, genuine question!
peasepud 59
Theres no reason why your previous employer cant write you out another P45, only they however could do that. At the same time, HMRC should be able to calculate your liability for last year as by now they should have all the relevant information unless your previous employer has failed to get the info into them or for some reason is using the wrong details for you so your account isnt upto date. Not sure why you would be put on a week1 tax code though however if you're earning the same every month then it wont make a great difference, week1 only really affects things when you get some pay falling into higher tax bands with other months not. peasepud 59
Apologies, just reread the original post without a screaming 9month old :lol As this is a current year issue then putting you onto a cummulative tax code will correct it in your next pay packet. You're on wk1 basis as a form of emergency tax (just be thankful it isnt code BR!). Once the tax office have your P45 then they'll issue a new code which is more than likely to be 647L Cum (hurrr harrr fnaaar fnaar). What will then happen is that all of your payments so far this year (JSA included) will be taken into account and the calculation of the next months tax will adjust the refund. ie if youve earned £2k p/m for the last 3 months and paid tax on emergency code BR for the first 2 then you'd have paid £400p/m in tax instead of something like £292 therefore youd be owed a refund of £216 (2 months at £108). As you finished JSA in May then theres not a great amount of pay/tax missing from the calculation. Id ring the helpline for JSA and ask them for a copy P45
Besty 4
I was on BR for the first couple of months in this job, that's the money I'm after. Cheers for the help mate, I'll give JSA a ring in a bit!
