The national office of statistics today announced that employent figures rose in the last three months faster than at any other time since records began back in 1971.

 

The private sector being responsible for most of the upturn.

 

Another few years and the country could be back on it's feet again. (communist unions having not completely fucked us up ofcourse).

I meant all the people that got jobs were part timers.

 

There was more full-time jobs lost than there were gained.....

 

UK unemployment rate down 0.1 percentage points to 7.8 percent in 3 months through July

 

Official figures show that Britain's unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 7.8 percent in the three months to July as more than a quarter of a million people joined the work force.

 

The Office for National Statistics said Wednesday total unemployment fell by 8,000 people between May and July to 2.47 million and that 286,000 more people had jobs than in the previous quarter, bringing the number of workers in Britain to 29.16 million.

 

The rise was driven largely by part-time jobs - 166,000 part-time employees joined the work force in the quarter, compared to 121,000 full-time workers.

 

The government said the rise in employment was good news, but the leap in the number of people finding jobs was offset by a slight increase in those getting jobseekers' allowance.

The number of people unemployed in the UK fell by 8,000 to 2.47 million in the three months to July, figures show.

 

This meant the overall UK unemployment rate remained at 7.8%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

 

However, the figures also showed the claimant count - those out of work and receiving unemployment benefit - rose by 2,300 in August to 1.47 million.

 

Many economists fear unemployment will rise later in the year when government cuts begin to kick-in.

 

There is concern that the UK's labour market will not be strong enough to support the public sector job losses looming under next month's spending review.

 

The fall in unemployment was below the drop of about 40,000 which observers had expected.

 

"The labour market data is both disappointing and worrying overall, fuelling fears that the improvement in the labour market is coming to an end as companies' fears mount over the strength and sustainability of the upturn," said Howard Archer, chief UK and European economist at Global Insight.

 

"This is even before public sector job cutting really gets underway."

 

Part-time workers

 

The number of people employed increased by 286,000 in the three months to July, the ONS said - the biggest quarterly rise since 1971.

 

However, this was largely driven by a rise in part-time workers, with the ONS saying more students may be taking on part-time jobs alongside their studies.

 

Employment Minister Chris Grayling said the rising claimant count showed that new jobs were not being filled by people on benefits - and underlined the need for urgent reform of the benefits system.

 

The ONS figures also showed that average earnings increased by 1.5% in the year to July, compared with a rate of 1.3% the previous month.

 

The truth doesn't really match your spin does it CT? The cuts haven't even begun yet.

Tbf though, the figures don't really stand up to much analysis and, pretty much like in other similar threads, when the flaws in your argument are pointed out, stuff like the above is all you can come up with. Just makes you look daft.

He was also at pains to point out the proposed cuts haven't even taken place yet.
