NJS why didn't you answer my question earlier? :)

Sorry, if you mean the one about the philosophical influences then no, I haven't read either.

My position on religion is the usual bitter ex-catholic, semi-intelligent ranting.

Went to the church last night to discuss the music for my wedding. I'm not religious as I've said but the inside of that place is pretty spectacular! Built in 853ad, it definately gives you a feeling of calm when you are in there. Got to meet the vicar next week, hope he doesn't start grilling me on my beliefs!

Why are you having a religious wedding?

Compromising your beliefs right there.

Don't see how it compromises your beliefs to get married in a church if it makes your wife-to-be happy like.

Mind, J69, have you not been getting married for 5 years or something?

3. Couldn't buy a house and pay for a wedding in the same year unfortunately

I didn't know until recently that the weddings must take place in a solid structure, so even if you have the service in a tent, they need a little alcove thing for you to stand in when you do the vows and all that shizzle

Hey Dave, how are you today :)?

Well I had a cheeky pint at lunch time, so I'm pretty tired, but I'm shifting house tonight so I'll have to man up and stop being a pussy. Also, going to see Richard Herring tomorrow and then off to Munich on a Stag Do on Thursday...

How's yerself?

As a postscript to his Atheism/Nazi remarks, I was reading last night that two types of books that were definitely banned in Germany were any books on evolution icluding On the Origin of Species and also any book which criticised Christianity.

I get the impression the Pope thinks its still the Middle ages and the only source of knowledge is the Church - someone should tell him about t'internet.

Some kind of religious tax comes out of your pay here, Meenz or Ise will know more.

You'd probably, almost definitely, love Feuerbach. He's the godfather of atheist humanism.

Only if you say you're religious. If you don't - no tax. Seems like a reasonable enough way of getting funds from the true believers, at least it's more honest than sheer guilt.

I would imagine that non-believers may see such a contribution as a "good works" tax akin to community charity which they may be happy to pay. I think I've seen that argument used to explain the disparity between the payment of such a tax in Skandanavian countries and the level of outright belief.
