Tbh, Shola only bulked up after the injury problems so you're talking shite. Please take your zany humour back to N-O.

Not really mate, you can't argue that his extra bulk has helped his injuries especially after he's repeatedly broken down and had operations after gaining the weight.

found the vid, nice to see. Can't see much of Duff on it but he's there too.

Shola, or Sholie as a certain member calls him, made his debut ten years ago today. 62 goals and 276 appearances later he's still going strong (?) in black and white. It's hard to remember a player who has divided the support so much for his on field exploits. Bobby Robson said in 2000, "Shola Ameobi is the future of NUFC", he was right as well. I think a lot of people are all too willing to give Shola a hard time on the pitch, but he deserves it sometimes, he doesn't look interested, and when you look at his better performances for the toon (Chelsea h 2004, Leverkusen a 2003, Liverpool a 2004, Sunderland h 2005) you have to look at his toon career as one which has saw gross underachievement. That's how I see it, other people see it as the fact he's just shite. Probably somewhere in the middle is true, but I spoke to a guy last week, and he dislikes Shola's game and attitude so much he said to me when he scores he doesn't count it as a goal. It's a shame this is how he'll be remembered off many.

That sums up whats wrong with him to me though. A lot of history's better players, Henry for example, were accused of being ineffective in the big games. I would argue that that's more to do with the fact that the bigger teams have better defences and as a result Henry didnt get the time or space he liked against the lesser teams.

With Shola though it was the other way around. If he can score against Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. then he should walk it against the smaller teams. That suggests to me that he can only motivate himself to step up to that next level in the big games. I think it's probably more a mental thing with Shola than any issues with his skill level. He's always being acknowledged as being brilliant in training.

He's bulked up since he first got his hip problems. That's my point. Probably because his hip problem made him even less mobile than he was to start with. He's always been shite, however.

What a load of fucking bollocks. Over 260 games and people still mention half a dozen at best. FFS.

262 so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt in 7 and I think thats too high.

Even when he opened up with tyhat hat trick last season it was the worst fucking hat trick I've ever seen.

Canny header to be fair. It's a sad fact he has lost 75% of toon fans to the point they make out he's worse than he is.

Understandable really when the two main features of his game are continually fouling and the fact that he's never grasped the off side rule.

On the same day Defoe scored a hat trick. Seeing them back to back was laughable.

To be honest Shola's was a good hattrick two good headers and a pen. Can't believe you're abusing a hattrick.

Not the hatrick itself, which was welcome of course, but it summed up ameobi. People will look at it and think, hmmm, hatrick he must be a quality player. When in reality, the goals weren't that great. Contrast it with Defoe. Now that was a hat trick.

Did Defoe's count double or something?

Agree that Shola gets a bit of a hard time, or at least more than is warranted considering how we've had much worse players during his time here, the problem is that he's been here so long now it's gotten a bit like the Heskey situation did with England. It's not their fault they get picked/contracts renewed etc

The fact is everyone's just fed up with Shola. Ranger could play far worse and people would still not criticize the lad as he has the potential to get better whereas with Shola he's only going to go further downhill over the next few years.

Never mind. It's not worth it.

1 goal = 1 goal is what TR is saying.

Someone like Defoe has probably scored more screamers than Ruud V Nistelrooy did at manchester, doesn't matter how they go in.

doesnt it, but?

Who the fuck is Shola? don't know him don't follow championship football sorry lads

I'm not one to "dictate policy" as Mancmag puts it, but surely there has to be some consideration for disciplinary action when every single post someone puts up is boring as fuck.

aye, aren't immigrants supposed to "enrich" us ;)

Shola must've been fuckin close to an England cap around 2002/3......banging them in for the under 21s, at Leverkusen, Anfield etc...at the time Sven was regularly picking no more than 3 strikers in the squad...Owen,Heskey and Darius fuckin Vassel :)

The most frustrating player I've ever seen, even before his hip problems...with his size and athelticism he couldve been a sort of poor mans Drogba but he's often looked as if he'd rather be anywhere on earth than on a football pitch.....fuck knows why, is it just the same side of the "Help I've been burgled!....no hang on, my flats just a fuckin shititp!" coin? ;)

Was rumoured to be getting a call up when England played at SJP years back but surprise surprise he got injured ;)

I say rumoured but I am sure Sven confirmed he had been thinking about it at the time.
