Guest Tuco Ramirez
Shola, or Sholie as a certain member calls him, made his debut ten years ago today. 62 goals and 276 appearances later he's still going strong (?) in black and white. It's hard to remember a player who has divided the support so much for his on field exploits. Bobby Robson said in 2000, "Shola Ameobi is the future of NUFC", he was right as well. I think a lot of people are all too willing to give Shola a hard time on the pitch, but he deserves it sometimes, he doesn't look interested, and when you look at his better performances for the toon (Chelsea h 2004, Leverkusen a 2003, Liverpool a 2004, Sunderland h 2005) you have to look at his toon career as one which has saw gross underachievement. That's how I see it, other people see it as the fact he's just shite. Probably somewhere in the middle is true, but I spoke to a guy last week, and he dislikes Shola's game and attitude so much he said to me when he scores he doesn't count it as a goal. It's a shame this is how he'll be remembered off many.
Gemmill 46064
I really wanted him to do well, but he hasn't and the worst of it is the fact that he doesn't look interested. I'm certain that he is, and that that's just a case of perception becoming reality because his performances have been so disappointing. Doesn't help his cause though. I think he's been treated poorly by the club over the years where they've played him injured in a way that they would never have done with the likes of Shearer or Owen. And for prolonged periods too. Its to his credit (and probably his personal detriment) that he was prepared to play through the pain too, and probably displays his love of the club. Having said all that, it's hard to feel sorry for him when he's ultimately been rewarded for consistently failing to deliver for 10 long years. tinofbeans 91
never rated him. never will. apparently has had a "Chronic Hip Problem" for most of his playing career. he was when fit slightly too good for the championships defences last year. thats where he should be in all honesty. acrossthepond 878
Shola having a testimonial would be about as cringeworthy as Shola being rewarded with a new contract after KK tried to shift him. So, bound to happen.

So, bound to happen. Can't see it happening like. They shouldn't have them these days anyway (not players who earned what he's earned). The whole idea of them were for loyal pros to earn some tax free money to put away / invest in a business so they can make a living after their playing career is finished. Now they earn enough in a few months to buy a mansion.

In Shola's case it'd be an embarrassment.

Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Similar to Dyer in some respects that he has natural talent but the wrong muscles for football. Dyer's were too small and fragile, but SHola has the opposite problem ie his muscles are too powerful and heavy for football to the point where they have affected his body and caused him perpetual injury problems. He is probably more suited to a sport like shot putting with his incredible upper body strength and pace but there is no money in that compared to football. It's scary to think how far we've fallen when you think of our squads of the past decade. In 2002/03 season our main strikers were: Shearer - shooting Bellamy - pace Ameobi - power Lualua - dribble speed that is what you call strength in depth. If he has a testimonial anyway I'll be there, will probably donate the money to a local charity he's a good lad shola, I remember he visited a farm with the goats there was a clip on the internet, couldn't help feeling he was in his perfect enviroment. Don't get the hate towards SHola as through most of his spell here we've been a very good football team.
