Davey Mac was one of my heroes as a kid, his attitude was class, certainly don't think he was underrated by most Mags.

Can stick John Anderson in the same bracket for me :(

My abiding memory of Fereday was over him falling over all the time. One of the lads who sat near us suggested he had running spikes in instead of studs. In theory he probably wasn't too far from the truth!

Is it honestly right he was still at the club in 1992? I find that hard to believe (or was it some sort of coaching staff role by then?)

Tom?

His testimonial was April 92 iirc, I remember the toon fans singing Waddle Waddle sign for us, because it was rumoured us and Sheff Wed were in for him as he was leaving Marseille, and further to that, Anderson had a really bad injury and never played again, and didn't play that night, but was still on our books, I'm pretty sure till the end of that season. Can still remember the programme "ANDO" on the front, no cunt ever called him Ando.

I remember his testimonial now aye. Tremendous knowledge tbf. Jesus that'd just been completely lost from recall in my memory.

How long was it between that testimonial and when he played his last first team game for us?

Possibly a year I don't know to be honest, but can't remember him playing in 91/92. He only got about 60k off the gate receipts. I remember this bloke in the corner saying after 20 minutes "right the Irish cunts got me 4 quid not watchin this shite am away".

Not having a dig here, but do they ever have threads like this on NO when people in their late 20's to early 50's have a crack about days goneby? When I was on there it would be impossible to have this type of discussion, debating how good ginger jock left backs were who only played 30 games for us from 20 years ago.

Don't think it was that particular game but there was one around that time where Waddle was in one of the executive boxes below the East Stand just behind where I was sat. Anyway someone noticed him and immediately the assumption was made that he was about to sign. Some blokes resorted to banging on the window and telling to "get the fucking shirt on!"

This cunt Gejon could be 6 miles from the South Pole, and he'd get an alarm WEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPP WARNING NEWCASTLE ONLINE BEING ABUSED WEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPP WARNING NEWCASTLE ONLINE BEING ABUSED

Putting the theory to the test?

Aye that's the difference. People are more interested in threads about how they deal with depression and teenagers on about lasses they've shagged than this type of thing on here. I think this board has a lot going for it poster wise compared to any toon board.

Did anyone go to the testimonial (I forget which players it was. Milburn?) when Basile Boli and The Waddler played. I barely remember it but I was in the Gallowgate.

Pretty certain that was Kenny Wharton's testimonial in 1989. The Fairs Cup winners had a match beforehand IIRC.

I was going to say that but I wasn't sure about Boli playing. If it was that match there was a game beforehand. I think it was Sunderland v. Newcastle but I thought it was '73 cup winners v '74 cup finalists or something like that. I think Frank Pingel scored a cracking goal if it's the same match.

That was Anderson's testimonial I was on about.

Nar Boli played in Anderson's. Gazza was there for Wharton's. The corner started singing Gazza is a wanker and he gave wank gesticulations from his shorts.

Thinking about he might have just been named up never made it.

I was very young. I do remember the "sign him on" chants to Waddle though.

Aye you're right about the pre-game being 73 Winners v 74 Runners-Up. What does stick in my mind was Tony Green playing but had to finish early as he's knee gave way again  Keegan was playing too and jumped into our paddock trying to take the scarf and hat off one bloke and give him his football shirt!

I got confused about Boli because I thought Waddle had tempted him over. But on reflection Waddle hadn't signed for Marseille until that summer and Boli was later on anyway...

Taking me back now, i went to both Anderson's and Wharton's, i wouldn't be surprised if i still have the programme from 1 or both knocking about somewhere!

Aaron Hughes would definitely have been worth keeping because of his versatility and never letting anyone down. I'm not sure he was underrated at the time though. I can remember the front of The Mag having a pic of him and the headline "£18million for Rio. What price Aaron Hughes?" after Leeds had bought Ferdinand from West Ham.

Acuna stands out for me. I wish Robson had used him more in his time here, there were games where we were crying out for someone to stiffen the midfield. I think for all Robson did, he did have his favourites and The Mighty Clarence suffered because he wasn't one of them.

My dad rated Distin very highly from the first time he saw him play, but again I think he didn't get a fair crack because Bobby kept playing him at leftback.

Mind that header he scored against Leeds, he was only 5ft6, but he rose above Bakke who was at least 6foot to head home.

One of the things I disliked about Robson was that he seemed to write players off based on one game or incident - I think Acuna paid the price for the Wolves cup defeat and there was getting rid of Andy Griffin just because he had a punch-up in a reserve match. He's certainly not the only manager with this trait - I think Keegan and Souness were both guilty of the same thing - but its disappointing to see nonetheless.

I'm not saying either were world beaters but I think once you have some decent squad players around, you shouldn't lose them for what I think are daft reasons.

I remember this place (in it's old incarnation) went absolutely crazy after the Wolves cup defeat. In the sense that the forum became absolute quality. I always trace it back to that actually.

There was uproar on 'here' after Lua-Lua scored for Portsmouth against us despite being on loan too. Was that the same season?

Season after. KK always did that after one bad incident with one notable exception at the toon, and that was when Beresford told him to fuck off against Villa. He must've mellowed in later years cos he gave Barton loads of chances.

Must have been later that...this was going back to 2002 (I think). The one where Bellars was kissing his prem badge at the end to the Wolves fans.
