tinofbeans 91
was truly grim last night, the loose ends were tied up quite well though. so the next one will be this is england 90? overall it did keep me on the edge of my seat last night though there were some bits i really did not like at all.... the acting by the leading lady was very good. Don't think enjoyable is the right word though. looking forward to the dvd
Guest alex
Yes, 'enjoyed' probably wasn't the correct way of putting it. Thought it was quality though.
Renton 22001
I don't see how the loose ends tied together well though. Where was the explanation for Combo's return, with him stumbling though Shaun's (new) door like that? Why was he visiting Lol's parents house any way? What was the point of the rescheduled wedding? Was it just a device to make sure the house was empty for Lol? Hate shit like that personally. Seriously, the storyline was really piss poor, I could scribble a better one in 5 minutes on the back of a beer mat.

Agree about turning up at Shaun's new house though. Wouldn't he have thought Lol still lived with her Mam though? She'd only just moved out. He'd have gone round there because he was in love with her. The rescheduled wedding was hardly that far-fetcher either imo. Thought the ending was a bit corny (but not that bad) and would've been more realistic if Lol's Dad had raped her then left or if Lol had killed hm then had to face the consequences herself. It seemed hurried which was daft considering there was about 3 1/2 hours prior to that, with plenty 'filler'.

I was trying to remember if there was history between Combo and Lol in the film and I couldn't. Anyway, you would have thought Shaun would have mentioned that Woody and her were living together. I actually liked the ending but a personal bug bear of mine is plots being over contrived just to fit characters in. In this case all the previous cast were there, which either seemed unlikely (woman from the shoe shop, the asian corner shop man), or absurd (Megsy and Banjo being part of the gang - still no explanation). It was like R2D2 being in all the Star Wars films. He should have just penned a plausible storyline centred on Shaun, and used old characters as needed, rather than shoehorning them all in. He could have also jettisoned the poorer actors - Milky was embarassing.
Guest alex
I've only seen the film once but I thought Combo told Lol he loved her / asked her out in it. Scene in a car rings a bell?
Renton 22001
I've only seen the film once but I thought Combo told Lol he loved her / asked her out in it. Scene in a car rings a bell? Oh aye. Watched the film about 6 months ago as well. Christ my memory's shit. Edit: christ, thinking back that knock back was the main reason for Milky's subsequent beating wasn't it, Combo was enraged. My other points still stand though. Kid Dynamite 7169
The scene where lol and her dad were arguing was terrible! 'Your a bitch, I'm a bitch am I, yeah, yeah, good, good, yeah, yeah, youre evil, I'm evil am I, yeah, yeah, good .... etc.' Cut to rape scene. It was bizarre! Guest alex
I think it's far less realistic when supposed heated arguments have these well constructed lines whereas the dialogue you describe was much more true to life imo.

That's how people talk and act when they're full of rage. For an example of a shit scene, look at the first episode of Milky and Woody on the hospital roof. Ayatollah Hermione 14053
Thought the last episode was very good but Combo's arc was pretty rushed tbh. Maybe if they'd spent less time on pointless house party scenes and Gary dressing up like Clark Gable, it would have had more time to be fleshed out. ewerk 31202
Aye, felt like they could've done away with one of episodes 1 or 2 and extended the finale to 90 minutes.

I can honestly say that is not how I act when I'm arguing with someone! The whole series was a bit shit Imo. I think some peoples opinions are being muddied by how good they hoped it would be. Same goes for the film

Billy Castell 0
I have to say this show is crap. I loved the film, but the TV programme just seems to be miserable and gloomy like Eastenders. There is no real sense of warmth that the film had in parts.
tinofbeans 91
different lead (who by anyones admission was a total fuck up because of her dad). a bit too dark for some but i found it in some places a difficult but good watch.
Happy Face 29
Thought the last episode was very good but Combo's arc was pretty rushed tbh. Maybe if they'd spent less time on pointless house party scenes and Gary dressing up like Clark Gable, it would have had more time to be fleshed out. But then other people have complained that there wasn't enough of the good humour we saw in the film and that it was too dark. You can't please all of the people all of the time. I don't think you needed to spend more time with Combo, because all his history was given to you in the film. I only caught up with the last episode last night and thought it was excellent. I don't think lack of clarity/explanation is any sort criticism, because any question raised can be answered by implication. How did combo turn up at Shaun's new house? Pissed up as he was, you'd guess he's been in the pub all night chatting to locals about who in the area has been up to what. Why does it even matter though? Before Lol was told about the rape the sound cut out and it went into a brilliant music montage. We weren't explicitly shown how Lol found out, but it was clear that Trev told her the full story. Watching Trev telling the explicit story wouldn't have served the show as much as that montage did. Simililarly, seeing Combo getting pissed up with characters we don't know and all the chats he'd had that night (rather than go and see his dying mum, because he was too scared ) would have added nothing, other than a contrived exposition scene. Just knowing he couldn't face it and that he needed the 12 year old kid he left behind to hold his hand through it was perfect as far as I'm concerned. If you're led through this stuff by the nose then it's no better than Hollyoaks. Edited October 5, 2010 by Happy Face
