kockhead 0
Full story Newcastle chronicle Aug 23rd WHO needs the local when you have got this mobile drinking den on your doorstep? Boozed-up yobs turned an old caravan into their own personal party-spot when they parked it outside a block of flats on a Tyneside estate. Berthed in a parking bay at Lumley Gardens, on Gateshead’s Mount Pleasant estate, the van was used as a place to sleep for one homeless man, and a regular drinking den by two others. But their noisy booze sessions soon attracted others and the caravan quickly became a magnet for other anti-social drinkers in the area who used the bar-on-wheels as a meeting place. Over the last six weeks police have received numerous complaints about noise, disorder and anti-social behaviour both in the caravan and the area around it. And on one occasion when a passing officer checked on the van he found three men, suspected to be worse for wear from drink, asleep inside during the middle of the day. Now the caravan has been seized and towed away. When police searched inside they found an assortment of different glasses had been used in the sessions. And there was even post one of them had had sent there. Neighbourhood beat manager PC Dave Ikin, said: “For more than six weeks we had been getting complaints about noise and rowdy behaviour associated with the caravan. “It was basically being used as a drinking den. There seemed to be three people sleeping there but we have had reports of other people coming and going, and the person that owns it was getting over-run by other people. “Having just started in my new role it was important to get to grips with any problems in the area that had been highlighted by residents. “Since the caravan’s been taken away incidents of anti-social behaviour have decreased and the residents are pleased with the actions police and partners took. “I spoke to one lady who lives opposite and she told me she was over-the-moon. “Anti-social behaviour caused by the small minority will not be tolerated by the majority of good people that live in the area and I will do everything in my power to ensure action is taken when it does happen.” “This was a good example of working with our partners to take relevant actions to resolve any community issues or concerns.” Edited August 23, 2010 by kockhead

StevenL 0
The didn't really mistake it for a nightclub though. It was intentionally set up as a drinking den, no mistakes there.
