Long way to go for us and this is a thread that could bite you on the arse spectacularly.

Very likely when you look at our squad.

Yesterdays team played well. Few of them will manage 30+ games though unfortunately.

Forget about the tramps.

I'm praying on the pessimism that's infiltrated their fanbase and kicking them whilst they're down. I've waited two years for this! One of them was even saying to me how much ahead of us they were going to be even if we did come up, and that we're now just a yo-yo club. In fact, I've got another one of them on facebook and he made a status update after the game yesterday explaining the reasons why we won yesterday, which i won't go into, before calling us "fucking disillusioned scum bags".

I would love to see them go down, and they've already missed two of their biggest chances for wins this season :cuppa:

Indeed. While our next run is supposedly easier than most, we'll still have a hard run to come. We need to make sure we get as many point as we can so we are prepared for coming up against a run like theirs. I honestly couldnt give a stuff about them and still expect them to finish above us at the end of the season. They'd want shot with shit if they didnt. Well, most of them you'd think already had been but thats another story.

After getting one point from a relatively easy start and a tough, tough run of games coming up, it's possible that heads could drop and turmoil could ensue. I still think we're better than them in all but a couple of positions.

I'd be amazed if we finished above them. And they won't go down even if we do.

Any reasons why? Is this just you trying to avoid being accused of being reactionary after yesterdays result or do you honestly think they're in a better place than us? I think if the spirit we seem to be taking into games continues we could very easily better them this season, we'd need to be lucky with injuries like, but at the same time, if Bent gets a bad injury they're fucked iyam

They have a better squad and have more money to spend, should they need to, in January. Obviously Bent is a huge player for them but you could say the same about us and Carroll, etc. Depends on what happens between now and the window closing of course but I could see Ashley thinking we've got enough players now. Be nice if we got someone on loan (like Ben Arfa). I don't think they're great btw and you only have to look at the run they had in the middle of last season to see they're susceptible to going on a bad run if things don't go their way.

They've spent £92.45m and recouped £37.5m = £55m outlay

In the period we've spent £44.75m and recouped £66.15= £22m profit

I wouldn't let 2 results sway you from what you thought a week ago.

I thought we were better than them before the season started so don't gimme that!

I'm pleased that you've drawn your conclusion based on financial outlay though, it'll be something to quote to both you, and Leazes, if we do finish about them :cuppa:

I must have missed where you posted it before the season started.

I've not drawn any conclusion. You asked why it would be amazing so I've shown you why. Sunderland have built a squad that should be capable of finishing mid-table wheras the majority of our team that started both games so far were players that couldn't avoid relegation 2 years ago.

What the managers are able to get out of their squads is another matter, it would be amazing if Hughton were to get more out of our players than Bruce is able to get from his.

I asked alex why he thought that though, not you ;) I don't think would make it amazing. They've wasted a lot of money and signed a lot of shite. Their players are being accused by fans of not being bothered, which as we found out is a dangerous thing.

You're right that many of our players were part of our relegation squad, but it's common knowledge that the difficult characters and "mercenaries" fucked off when we went down. We're a completely different proposition this season.

Also worth a mention is the fact that they were shite last year and are in profit so far this window. They haven't strengthened at all from last season. You can quote figures to support an argument but they're easily manipulated by shortening or indeed lengthening the timeframe from which you quote.

It'd be an achievement to finish above them, but amazing is just a massive exaggeration.

Not so sure about that, they've already sold two of their so called best players and it's looking like they'll not be replaced.

All it needs is an injury to Bent and I can't see when the goals would come from. Factor into this the implosion that is about to happen when they pick up very little points over their next games and Bruce is hounded out or sacked and it's not very rosy on wearside.

An injury to Bent and they are so fucked, i read they haven't won a game in which he didn't score for over a year now!

Fair play to them beating citeh but i've always thought this season citeh would be awsome one week when it clicks, but struggle on another when its apparent the players barely know each other such is the number of changes they've made.
