Sad I know...but I am watching X factor and I am convinced they have autotune on the mics on a couple of acts. The strange thing is, it seems to be on the crap acts. The crap duo that did don't stop believing - the lass defintately had autotune on and the black moron that chanted 'Mercy' had it as well.

What a load of shit!!!!!!!!

I just hate the fact that every fucker who turns up actually believes that they are the most amazing singer ever. The look of horror when some scrote from Walker is told by Cheryl Cole that they're shite is always good for a laugh. I swear some of them have already organised loans from Ocean finance on the back of their future recording contracts.

Oh...and it's not just an entertainment show. It's one mans clever scheme to mould (mold?) the style and quality of British music and destroy the chances of good bands with real musicians being heard. Since the whole thing started music has taken a downward turn and it's much harder to find a good new band or song.

One new act a year at a time? It's not like the kids buying McElderry's album would otherwise be into some supercool band who aren't shifting any records cos Cowell said so, is it? The vast majority of music has been shit for years, and you've always had to look a bit harder to find something decent.

It's not really one new act though...they promote their own acts throughout the finals that would otherwise be back to stacking shelves like JLS, take that etc... then they release albums for about 10 of the final 12 once they have nailed their christmas number 1. i.e. that nonce that dances like forest gump wailing out a stevie wonder classic, diana vickers and her cilla black warble, I'm sure stacey 'duh' solomon will have an album out...the list gaans on!

The Diana Vickers album is canny and JLS have a couple of decent tunes, though their latest one was gash and they're a fucking disgrace to look at. ;)

As for the show, of course it's a load of manipulative cack. (And the lass - sorry, the mother :cuppa: - doing "Mercy" was using "her own arrangement", hence the vocoder [and it being heinously bad].) But anyone who's suckered in or gets wound up by it needs looking at too. You can tell three minutes out how each individual piece is going to pan out, because if the backing music starts up and it's something that has a big key change or final chorus, you know they're going to tie it in with Cowell looking sceptical then delivering the decisive "yes". I'm loath to say "IT'S ENTERTAINMENT STUPID", but really, if that's what entertainment has stooped to and you can't see through it and treat it as one big drinking game (dead relative sob story? shot! "this is all I've ever dreamed about"? shot! "you're very likeable"? down the bottle!), then more fool you.

auto tune's been used for as long as its been around and with great success. it doesn't mean its right though! i loathe this program. the chance to get this xmas's no 1 ! is so very sinister ( i know ratm won out last year but hey ho). it just shows that there are too many dumb people that buy in to this crap.

Because it's a disgrace to real musicians and needs more people to realise the pathetic tricks they use to make any twat sound half decent.

Every chart musician uses autotune.

Not saying they're real musicians, but given what these people will end up singing I wouldn't complain.

The lass that did Mercy was class though. Never thought X-factor would embrace someone like Yoko Ono.

I wonder which single Sony BMG will re-issue this christmas in order to prolong the interest in what was a dying brand, ironically by motivating the people who proclaim to despise it.

Perhaps a Metallica ditty.

i sympathise and somewhat agree with your views. but this particular comment, which i've bolded, is utter shit.

I'm guessing you have read the bold bit but misunderstood it. I am not saying there are no good new bands or songs...I am saying they are harder to 'happen by' since all this mainstream x factor rubbish is forced upon us. 15 - 20 years ago, you could have found decent music in the charts, on mainstream radio channels/shows. These days, good music requires 'specialist' radio shows and will not be found in the top 40

Given that 14yr old girls control the singles charts, and middle aged women control the album charts and they buy the shit produced by Cowell I think it's easier for people to manufacture a bland product, the likes of which are popular on those things than it is to invest in an artist with genuine originality and talent.
