Park Life 71
It was Niall Hickman from the Daily Express. He said he had been over to interview McLaren last season at Twente and McLaren had said there was only one player in his squad that was good enough for the Premier League and that was Tiote. Now that I don't believe. While Tiote was instrumental in thei championship win last season and has improved vastly over the past season, there are players in that Twente squad who are better still, like Brian Ruiz. I don't believe McLaren would have said this. Also, you have to wonder why McLaren didn't go in for Tiote for his new club if he really thought that highly of the lad.. tinofbeans 91
maybe, though parky wolfsburg have decent players in that position. as things stand he's a (hopefully) quality addition. we still need a centre back with pace..... thats the most glaring omission, and a right back thats good enough.... Kevin 1
Must not have sent the work permit application off with a first class stamp. Saying you need to send it to them, they vertify it and then send it back you make no sense my youngin. When I worked for Ivory Coastian Working Customs© we used to be working non stop round the clock trying to get not just footballers but the general public work permits. Footballers are no different, they have to wait their turn.

Barney 0
Cheick Tiote backed to be success at United Aug 24 2010 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE UNITED new boy Cheick Tiote has been tipped to be a "big favourite" with the Toon Army - according to a man who knows him better than most. Tiote was handed a glowing reference today by former England boss Steve McClaren, who gave an exclusive insight into the player he managed during his stint with FC Twente. McClaren is now managing Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg, but only after helping Tiote rise to prominence at FC Twente in the last two years. He turned the Ivory Coast international into a title-winning competitor in Holland, helping to ruffle the feathers of Dutch big guns Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven along the way. McClaren, speaking from his German base, told the Chronicle: “He’ll be a big favourite at Newcastle – the fans should take to him straight away. “Cheick’s a physical player, but also very fair. He’s got a good engine, and could prove a real hit at Newcastle. “He’ll be ideal for them, especially in away games when he can sit in front of the back four.” Tiote made 58 Eredivisie appearances for the Dutch side scoring one goal, and McClaren feels that Chris Hughton has signed one of the most reliable players in the European game. The former Middlesbrough boss went on: “He was a very valuable member of my squad. “However, in the Dutch system of football, he didn’t get as many games as he deserved. “Now he will be even more suited to Premier League football. “He’s a very strong and athletic player. He’s a natural ball winner, and he’ll acclimatise very well to the English game.” McClaren, who added the Dutch title to his managerial CV that also contains the Carling Cup which he won at Boro in 2004, also feels Tiote will offer a goal threat for the Magpies, despite being pigeon- holed as an anchor man. Speaking on the 24-year-old, McClaren added: “He’s technically very good, and can maybe make more of a contribution going forward than people would expect. “I wish him all the best, and look forward to watching his progress at Newcastle, where I’m sure he’ll do very well.” Hughton is awaiting a work permit for Tiote. sammynb 3517
I hope the bookie works out, that way we won't have to rely upon Smith. If we are lucky he could be the difference we have been needed for a while. An Essien or Makalele for Chelsea, Viera for Arsenal, even Keane for man u. Knowing our luck he'll be more Abdoulaye Faye than Acuna

Barney 0
yeah, shocking. "He's unfortunately had a lot of injuries this past year," said Pulis, "but he played his part for us in our first season in the Premier."He's one who won't be remembered by the fans, but he played some smashing games for us. He also got his head down and worked hard behind the scenes to try and get himself fit." —Stoke manager Tony Pulis on releasing Amdy Faye(currently without a club). JawD 99
Mate of mine goes to see Stoke play now and again, reckon Faye was one of their best players before his injury.
