Papa Lazaru 0
The rumours of Given off to Arsenal are gathering some pace. Schwarzer must be absolutely pissed off! I'd be surprised at citeh giving a rival for CL place/title exactly what they need. Wenger's insistence on never having a top keeper is one of the reasons he's won nowt for years now, citeh would be stupid to help them out! OTF 7489
After the goal that Almunia conceded they ought to be in a hurry to get a keeper in. Cracking shot from Ngog, but beaten nearpost by a shot that he easily got a hand to is not good enough. Reina's looked much worse, but the way it happened there's not a lot he really could have done - must have felt like a right tit about it, that would have been a very valuable three points for Liverpool. Edit - Oh, love the way they cut to Given in the stands after Hart made an impressive save. Edited August 15, 2010 by OzToonFan

Andrew 4857
Funny like never got why they bother doing that, would given have made the same saves...well more than likely yes as hes better than hart lol would he? you cant account for form, harts a damn good keeper and had one of those days a standard given performance woulndt have yielded the same result
farnie1993 0
Ireland is much better than Milner. Bellamy has constant run-ins with Mancini, and he's in the fortunate position of having the funds to turf him out and replace him with anyone he wants. if you look at the signings that mancini is making for man city he is making the team very similar to the team when he was managing inter milan... 4 big defenders all over 6 foot definatley... all of these fit in: boateng, kolarov, richards, and kompany has been playing centre back for them too... and they are after david luiz (he looks a top player like) thats just an example of what he is doing with the defence but if you look at the type of players he had at inter milan steven ireland just wouldnt fit in, so he is a good player. better than milner. but he doesnt fit in with what Mancini wants to do with the team. Hart hasn't become a world-beater overnight and has actually become England's number 1 on account of others being too old / too shit than anything that he has specifically done. He is an excellent keeper and had a good game yesterday admittedly but he was under the media spotlight on account of his inclusion ahead of Given and, unlike other keepers around the division, didn't drop any clangers this weekend. Is he a better keeper than Given? Not in my mind. I'll say one thing for Joe Hart, he has his head screwed on. Given had about 5 or 6 matches last season where he put in performances like that - Hart knows that he must put those performances in as regularly otherwise those bigging him up will be the ones quickly knocking him down. Can see why Man City are keen to keep him too. He's younger than Given and English (which shouldn't have any bearing but it always seems to where value is concerned). NJS 4411
Saw him linked with Fulham - I'm not one of these people who blame him for leaving or think he somehow betrayed us or whatever but I'd still find it funny as fuck if he goes somewhere like that. Arsenal should really have signed him when Lehamn left or even when Seaman did.

Guest Tuco Ramirez
I was reading on Newcastle-Online the other more than half the people there thought he was a judas for leaving us. Fucking idiots. "Judas" he stayed 11 years and won fuck all. He would've stayed here forever if we even had hope, but he knew there was none, we got good money for him, he must feel like he wasted his career with us seeing as though he is the best goalkeeper in the league by a distance. He stayed here for longer than most would have, it's not as if he was a local lad like Shearer or Le Tissier at Southampton etc Don't know why anyone thinks he should have stuck with us any longer than he did. Dr Gloom 22149
i can't blame given for leaving. he gave us the bulk of his career, often playing behind a shite defence. i reckon he only left when he realised ashley has zero ambition and we had zero chance of winning anything - or even competing for anything - while he's in charge. he wanted to go somewhere where he might win something. fair play to him if you ask me - you only get one career. I understand what he gave to us over the years, but if he loved the club as much as thought, he should of tried to save us and them moved in the summer. I also believe that season, there were egos in the locker room that were not good for nufc, and it does make me wonder if he were one.

For me its not a case of people are entitled to their opinion, I think comments like Judas regarding someone who undoubtably loves the club are nothing short of a disgrace. Two clubs he's played for Celtic and Man City, both of whom claim to being the best fans in football and to this day he compares us favourably with both. Giraffidae 0
to me Given was forced to leave us, he could see the way that the club was being run into the ground by Ashley and his mates, he made a stand against them and had to go.
sweetleftpeg 0
Whilst I agree with a lot of what people are saying, I personally think he went the wrong way about it. Releasing a statement through his solicitor on New Years Eve for example wasn't brains of Britain. I also always thought he was a bit quick to spit his dummy out while he was here on the very rare occasion he was left out. You could argue that's because he really wants to play rather than sit on his arse collecting his money, a rare trait in todays footballers. Should have stayed till the end of the season rather than piss off and leave us in the middle of a relegation battle. I realise this isn't the populist view, but fuck it. Cunts-Online more like. I don't think we did. We had a player with about 4years left on his contract, coming into his 'peak years'. The buyer at the time is the richest club in the world, throwing cash about. He's also in the top 4/5keepers in the country. We get what, £3.5m for him? I also think he should have seen out the season at the club. It's very easy to say 'fuck it, I'm off' when the going gets tough. He was one of the senior lads at the club though-I'd have liked him to see out a few months and done his utmost to keep us safe. Not surprised though the way he threw a tantrum seasons previous when he was dropped.

The Fish 10965
My problem wasn't that he left, or even the manner in which he did go, but it was the timing. For all he has missed out on some serious honours for a player of his ability by playing for us, we still gave him the chances, supported him and loved him up here, I would have hoped he'd stay until the end of the season. I truly believe he would have saved us from the drop if he had stayed. Why didn't we say to him, "look Shay, stay until the end of the season and we will not stand in your way, we'll give you a heroes exit if needs be. But stay for half a season and save the club from the drop before you move on." I don't think he's a Judas, and I think if he was approached in the right way, he would have stayed to save us from the drop.
Barney 0
wiki says £5.9m .com say £8m I stand corrected on the price. Still not superb from the club that are about to buy Milner for £24m.
