go see the angel of the north up close. it's prtetty impressive.

baltic gallery and a stroll up the quayside essential.

walk around jesmond deane if the weather's nice.

if you've got a car and like the great outdoors, a drive up to hadrian's wall and a walk is nice.

The Hancock Museum is free and good for a couple of hours if you have kids.

Same for the Discovery Museum.

I was thinking about that. Haven't been since I was a kid. Didn't it have a make-over recently to make it like a mini Natural History Museum?

Aye. It's pretty much open plan now.

Much of the collection is the same, it's just presented in a more modern way.

My little 'un loves it.

( and yes, the freaky Egyptian mummy is still there).

Do you charge more than £3.75?

:icon_lol:

£5:00p/h shed bitch offer still stands.

I'll even through in the Vaseline.

Fist, what are you going through with vaseline? If it's Kevin you may want to tie a board across your arse or consider a safety rope!

Agree re: the Laing. Much more consistent than the Baltic which is a bit hitty-missy. Not sure if it's still on but there was an excellent Japanese exhibition there which included the famous 'The Great Wave off Kanagawa'. Even if you've never heard of it you'll have seen it.

The Japanese exhibition is still on. I love the John Martin paintings they have there.

I've always thought the Hancock suffers from its location. Cracking memories of school trips and all the rest though. I think David Bellamy visited in the late 80s to look at some greenery, which was enough to merit a five-minute piece on Look North.

Was there today with my sister and nephew and it was good value for the suggested donation of £3. It didn't look like I remembered , but seems to have a more kid friendly set up. It meant the bairn could be out of the pushchair and toddling about and not miss anything. The touch screens went down well along with the fish tank that had "Nemo" in it.

The mummy is still class.
