N'Zogbia handed first France call

Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia has been called up to a new-look France squad for the first time for their friendly against Norway on Wednesday.

N'Zogbia, who is of Congolese descent, had previously expressed a desire to play for England, his home since 2004.

He is one of 15 uncapped players in a group missing all 23 World Cup squad players, who were suspended due to the infighting that marred their campaign.

The match in Oslo represents new France coach Laurent Blanc's first in charge.

Blanc took over from Raymond Domenech, who had been in charge since 2004 and led the French during their disastrous World Cup in South Africa, which saw them exit in disarray having earned only one point in the group stages.

Domenech's decision to dismiss Nicolas Anelka from the squad caused a mutiny, which saw players refuse to train ahead of their match with the hosts.

As well as the uncapped players, Blanc has also recalled Arsenal's Samir Nasri and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who were both left out of the World Cup squad by Domenech.

Former Chelsea, Portsmouth and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra - currently with Real Madrid - is recalled having missed the summer tournament because of illness.

Nice striker Loic Remy, who is a reported target for a number of Premier League clubs, is also in line to earn his first cap.

N'Zogbia, 24, who has previously represented France at Under-21 level, was Wigan's Players' Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Season for 2009/10.

France squad: Nicolas Douchez (Rennes), Stephane Ruffier (Monaco), Aly Cissokho (Monaco), Mathieu Debuchy (Lille), Rod Fanni (Rennes), Philippe Mexes (Roma), Adil Rami (Lille), Mamadou Sakho (Paris St Germain), Benoit Tremoulinas (Bordeaux), Yohane Cabaye (Lille), Lassana Diarra (Real Madrid), Blaise Matuidi (Saint-Etienne), Yann Mvila (Saint-Etienne), Charles N'Zogbia (Wigan), Samir Nasri (Arsenal), Moussa Sissoko (Toulouse), Hatem Ben Arfa (Marseille), Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Jimmy Briand (Lyon), Guillaume Hoarau (Paris St Germain), Jeremy Menez (Roma), Loic Remy (Nice).

I'm not anti-N'Zogbia. Just don't think he's all that. He thinks he's better than he is and seems to think Arsenal are always on the verge of signing him. His attitude isn't great and that doesn't help. He looks good when he adds graft to his guile but spends too much time thinking that's below him. He's only in the squad because the 23 from the WC aren't. I think Wigan got the better deal like :D

don't understand the anti-zoggy feeling around here tbh

Better than Routledge and Guittierez

It's got nothing to do with his ability. It's more to do with the fact he's an arsehole.

Been made into a far better player than he actually was because of the circumstances of his move. When was the last time he was decent for us prior to that?

Considering they both suffered from inflated egos, in your opinion who was better for us - N'Zogbia or Bernard? And why?

Bernard was more consistent like although that's easier at FB than as a winger. Probably Bernard though, in his first spell :D

he [zoggy] just needs good handling, and/or better players around him, there is nowt wrong with that when you have the ability. Everybody is different.

Last manager he played well for here was Souness tbh.

Allardyce played him at left back, he's an attacking player.

Difficult to say anything good about any player that doesn't try in a game. Especially a frog.

So did Keegan though.

I know he's an attacking player btw. He's quite limited though which is why when he loses the graft he's not a particularly good PL player. He thinks he can play in the middle as well, which is odd because players normally know their best position but he hasn't got the nouse to play there. I'm not saying he's worse than what we've got because he isn't. He is an arrogant prick though, which I'd be more inclined to accept if he was anywhere near as good as he thinks he is. And for such a direct player his end product isn't much. No use comparing him to Gutierrez because he's not very good in any case.

We had other 'frogs' who did that from time to time tbf. :D

:D That's his problem in a nutshell. If he worked his bollocks off (like he did when he first broke into the team here) he'd be a much better player.

Robert and Ginola could get away with it because they were much more talented. Still frustrating at times like.

I wouldn't say "try", but good managers accept and manage different personalities in all walks of life. Bobby Robson got performances out of him and Keegan have done too.

You know there are plenty of poor managers out there, and many players who perform better for some managers than others. That's just the way it is.

What perplexes me about your attitude to him is you can't stand Anelka. Yet he's Anelka without the talent.

Anelka is obviously a top player, always has been I've never said he wasn't, but he also needs a certain type of handling and the good managers have got it out of him.

The trouble with him, is he was/is too easily influenced by his brothers hence moving clubs so often and coming across as a mercenary.

My point still stands, surely. You seem to think the sun shines out N'Zogbia's arse.

Well, I do remember you criticising him when we were linked with him under Souness so I'd best not go there, eh?

he was our most dangerous attacker - apart from Shearer - after Bellamy was sold. Good left sided players, who take people on, are valuable, there aren't too many of them around. I just think Keegan or another good man manager would get the best out of him, playing with better players. The Wigan supporters think he's good enough for a bigger club too if he's their player of the year.
