Where's the ambition?

at the end of the day, you can make as much fuss/excuses [or as little] as you like about not spending money, but the successful clubs are the ones who show the ambition and generally spend the most money to buy the best quality players.

Basic stuff.

Leeds, Portsmouth, Rangers,- you're right - ambition is a great thing

There's a difference between spending within your means and overspending.

Look at the spending from Premier League teams who got less than 40 points last year, or got promoted....

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS £16.5m

WIGAN ATHLETIC £9.5m

WEST HAM UNITED £5m

WEST BROMWICH ALBION £2.3m

BOLTON WANDERERS £1.6m

NEWCASTLE UNITED £1.5m

BLACKPOOL £0

We're being far tighter than any of our competitors and it'll lead to relegation.

well, we're certainly not showing much ambition at the moment, that's for sure.

so far we've signed an over the hill and overweight sol campbell, a crocked youngster on a freebie and a championship full back, who by all accounts is no better than we already have.

i still think we need a minimum of two new players to come in before the window closes. and two quality players, not old age rejects or youngsters no body has heard of. we need players good enough for the permier league now.

you're happy going back to the Westwood and McKeag days then and wish the Hall/Shepherd days had not happened. ?

This constant references to Leeds don't half make me laugh. Would any of their supporters say they would rather have stayed solvent and been a yo-yo club than reach the semi finals of the European Cup ?

At the end of the day, its all about having memories to look back on in football and take success when it is there. Who the fuck wants to remember decades of nothing but underachievement, like you appear to wish. You don't half spout some shite sometimes Rob, and you should know better.

Pompey fans are very lucky that they even have a club to support after what the idiots in charge of Portsmouth did.

It's getting off the point though. It's ridiculous to point at Portsmouth and Leeds as though they're the only examples of clubs having ambition and ignoring ones doing very nicely who have shown a good deal more ambition than us without going daft.

there's definitely a balance to be struck between racking up massive debts like the previous lot did and trying to get away without spending over 50p like ashley.

I'm saying we should behave like the 2nd/3rd biggest club in the country ought to behave. If you don't understand that, then you're a tosser.

They are also very spoiled now. When Alex Ferguson goes, they may realise it, they have obviously forgotten all those years they got nowhere near winning the league and were even relegated.

Tough. A club like us should always be attempting to win the trophies and play in europe, which means paying the going rate.

I don't think they are pal. I think they know full well what a privileged position they've been in these past 20 years in terms of success. They enjoyed 15 of those years supporting a fantastically run club that perfectly balanced success and spending. Using one to spur the other.

The last 5 years the success hasn't deserted them, but they're well within their rights to worry and complain about what the future holds on the current financial path where borrowing has gotten out of hand.

Shagging a lass with vd can be a very good shag as well as seriously worrying.

Obviously you're happy enough getting VD as long as it means getting a shag.

It is possible to get a shag without getting VD though.
