Guest alex
Honestly don't know how anyone can put Smith ahead of Guthrie or Barton. He wasn't even much cop in the Championship. I know Guthrie arguably wasn't either but he looked the part when he played in the middle. Smith absolutely finished imo. it's like choosing between being being burried alive or hung, drawn and quarted. neither are going to be a good option. Not really, both are far better central midfielders than Smith.
Barney 0
is smith ever going to get a game up front again? I'm pretty sure he said in an interview that he doesn't feel he's capable of playing as a striker since he go that horrific injury. How that squares with him playing as a combative midfielder I don't know “I’ve got absolutely no interest in going back up front,” Smith told The Journal. “Defensive midfielder is my position and I enjoy it, I really do. The season in the Championship has helped me a lot – I’ve developed new skills and I know a lot more about what is needed to play in that role in front of the back four. Barney 0
I think that injuries took their toll. He scored some screamers for ManU when he first signed for them.

He can put it about a bit and get Caroll on for the last 20 min. We're looking at a 3-0 or worse anyway so it's neither here nor there. What a change in expectation from the KK 0-0 last year. sweetleftpeg 0
Massively, massively worried about any combination of Nolan/Guthrie/Smith/Barton. Totally out of their depth less than 2 years ago at this level, I'm not expecting great things to be honest. Guthrie I have more time for, except the poor bugger will have his confidence ripped from him the minute one of wingers gets injured and he's forced to sit out there and look lost. Not his fault by the way. Ho-hum.

Papa Lazaru 0
Assuming Campbell doesn't quite make it and that Hughton will go 4-5-1 i'd go with: -----------------------Harper Perch--------Colo---------Williamson----------Enrique Routledge---------Guthrie--------Barton-------Jonas ---------------------Nolan ----------------------------Carroll
OTF 7496
What a change in expectation from the KK 0-0 last year. 2 years. :D 'twas 1-1 Martins header put us in the lead, they scored one back quite quickly can't remember who.
Kitman 2207
I reckon CH will play Barton on the right instead of Routledge. We'll have no attacking intent whatsover, hoping to slot one in from a set piece via Big Andy. In other words Allardyce's tactics - 5 man defensive midfield and a big lad upfront trying to win corners. I expect we'll lose 3 or 4 nil.
OTF 7496
Hope not, but I certainly won't be surprised if he does. Best player in each position please! If we play central midfielders out wide, they'll naturally push in and will open up space down the flanks that will be wilfully exploited. Harper Perch---Coloccini---Williamson---Enrique --------Guthrie Routledge-----Barton------Gutierrez --------Nolan Carroll----

Steven Taylor was off getting treatment, that's how the goal came to happen Ball slid in from the edge of the box, Fletcher tapped her home Good memory. Typical of Taylor to have been off getting treatment. Kitman - Routledge is the player who constantly has been mentioned throughout the pre-season as our most dangerous looking player and best at getting forward. It would be a travesty if we went there and played someone like Barton out of position in his place. That could go wrong in so many ways - likely one where Barton gets the shits at being outplayed and makes a brash 'challenge'. We have to at least try to play football or else we'll get no 'teamwork' value out of a game like this as we'll simply be chasing shadows all match, repelling wave after wave of attack. The afformentioned opener against Manchester United in 2008 we at least had a decent go at taking the game to them and came away with a draw. I'm not saying that's my preference, I just think that CH will adopt a 'safety first' approach with a low scoring draw as our ambition. Routledge would appear from the bench when/if we went 2 down. This isn't based on anything other than a pessimistic hunch, mond you so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Like others I'd start with Harper Perch Williamson Enrique Collocini Routledge Barton Guthrie Guti Nolan Carroll With Nolan playing as AM/support striker. I still wouldn't back that team to get a point though.
