Everyone makes rash posts from time to time, no one more than Sima, just stopping short of describing Cacapa as Bobby Moore-like. Here's mine

It might sound ridiculous but the main negative for me was how well Geremi played. I'm struggling to recall a better debut than that in the first half, he was absolutely immense, what a buy. My main concern is, he was so good in that midfield roll, Sam will ignore the fact he's a good right back and leave Carr there.

I wouldn't read a great deal in to last night though, I mean it could've been 6 or 7 if he left the same team out second half, but Juventus will be a stern test for United, and we'll have to play well to get any sort of result.

Oh dear :D

Look, I'm as disappointed as the rest of you. But to say things like it's his club the moment he took over is foolish. You all knew that the squad was weak and paper-thin when he took over. You also knew that we needed defenders. So what could he do? Build from the back. I know that when Bobby was manager, there used to be times when every attack against us looked like it could result in a goal.

Tactics are nothing when your team flounce about, shouting their mouths off and refusing to play. Top players won't sign for us when SBR was manager, so to act as if all this is a more recent thing is a tad naive.

Yes, we're playing shite at the moment but for crying out loud. Give the man some breathing space, will you?

However. I have said this before, and I'll say it again. If the team continues to be shite (starting from after the Man U. game, because I know we'll be hammered) I know where my loyalties will lie, and it won't be with the management.

Personally, I have no expectations from Roeder whatsoever. Mid-table will be good enough for him as (I'm sure he and Freddy will often remind us in future) "he saved us from relegation". Once again expectations have been lowered and we slip into an Everton type state of mind where we hang around and Europe or a cup run is a bonus.

Problem is, that's how most other managers see us, so until an unproven manager surprises everyone and drags us back up the table no proven manager will come near us. After the joy of the 90's, supporting Newcastle in the 00's has been and will continue to be soul sapping. A change in management can't turn clubs into world beaters anymore. That needs a change in the boardroom.

This is perfect....

Yeah, I'm quite optimistic, really happy with Geremi and optimistic about Cacapa, bit of experience and class at the back that we've been crying out for. Hopefully this left back deal will be done and he'll be able to fill that gap better than anyone has for a few years (though I think we still need more cover there).

I think Smith is similar to Dyer and it's just like for like (in terms of ability and being prone to injury). However it's a new set of legs (hopefully) keen to impress, rather than a player that had become stale and whose stock was at an alltime low with the fans.

Barton and Viduka, I'm not so excited about, but looking at the comings and goings, they're replacements for Parker and Sibierski which has to be a vast improvement.

Might've been on N-O but anyway I can remember saying I thought Alan Smith would be an excellent signing and turn out to be a crowd favourite, or words to that effect. Whoops! :D

Probably posted worse things than that like but that one springs to mind.

Funny enough I was just saying that about Smith last night how good he would be after his goal against some Italian side, then they played him up front against Arsenal and he was immense.

Dr Gloom you were probably right to be fair which says everything.

i always thought shola would become a half decent player after shearer packed it in because the two weren't suited to playing alongside each other. turns out shola was just always shite and had nothing to do with his partner.

the smith comment is a funny one. can't remember who it was that noticed but when i was trawling back through old threads, someone pointed out that he's on a goal run of 2 in 5 seasons.

There was some truth in that tbf Dan. Shola's problem is he's finished physically as his hip has restricted him imo for about 6 seasons now. Not saying he would have turned out to be class or anything but, given his fitness issues it's a disgrace the amount of contracts he's had here.

Another thing I was on about was he's actually due a testimonial. You could bring Real's best xi for it there'd be about 10,000.

Effin a, I can't find it now and I'm done searching.

The stupidest football post I ever made involved my confusing and annoying propensity to sometimes get people's names mixed up (I do it with hockey players too). I made what was a somewhat insightful post (for me at least) about Bassong and totally shot it all to hell by referencing N'Zogbia instead.

Stupidest General Chat post I made was in response to some fat American woman video on here that everyone was making fun of. I was having a shitty day and went off saying that I hated being compared to people like the one in the video when no one at all had accused me of being like the woman in the video, and even I have to admit, there are probably a lot more Americans like the woman in the video than me. Make of that what you will.

Football post would probably be saying that "anyone is better than Shepherd"

General... fuck, literally too many to mention.

I too got caught up in the Smith hysteria and took a year long beating for it.
