Nyff 0
As a none phototographer I quite enjoy reading this thread and seeing some of the photos, however do some of you not think you are concentrating too much on the effect the equipment can produce rather than the subject matter. Surely the fun is in creating a photo that is unique 'ish rather than just well developed. Simply putting a boring subject into black and white must wear thin very quickly. Creativity should win everytime. Just my two penneth. Keep up the good work. Do have to agree with you somewhat. Haven't really had anything too interesting to photograph subject matter wise, though, which should hopefully change with an impending trip to Bristol and then when I move down South for University in September. But does depend on what you mean by being creative with subject matter. I have a feeling I can be more creative with this light-drawing stuff, but apart from that there isn't much I can think of to be creative with at this moment in time! From my point of view it would be what the photo is about. Ie Something you dont see every day or something viewed in a different way. eg Why dont you all have a toontastic competition this week. Pick a subject matter and post your photo on here. We'll vote for our favourite and the winner can set next weeks challenge. For example this weeks could be titled Simply Snail. I was playing around with dropping stuff in water the other day, actually...didn't really work for me too well But sure, if you set a decent enough title then I will more than happy to chip in! Christmas Tree 4725
Id be up for a weekly challenge ie we all post our interpretation of the subject rather than it being a contest. Thats more the point and it will help those struggling for subjects to see an "object" in a different light. I suppose to get it going you should stick to household / everyday items that you all have access too. IE A theme around "spider" may throw up some stunning shots of life and death, morning dew on a miliion strands....... Or the title alcohol may lead to frothing bottles or melting ice or a pile of sick in the big market.
Nyff 0
Sounds good to me. Who is setting the first theme? Is it worth starting a new thread for it, or perhaps even better, a flickr group?

Guest alex
Only kidding btw, canny idea. I'm crap at coming with themes / initial ideas though.
JawD 99
Yeah I'm up for it. Good to see the interest for it here. I'd also ask that not only images are put up, but what about a brief idea of how the shot was achieved? I say that as someone who is still learning a lot about the subject so would be good to see how people achieve certain images. While a Flickr group would be handy, might not help everyone on this site so maybe just as good to post links to the images in here.
JawD 99
As for themes, a Flickr group I am in do a similar thing with a weekly or bi-weekly theme. This weeks theme their is simply "Less is More". It's then up to people to interpret that. Not saying we should use that, but just idea of the kind of theme they use. Guest alex
I'd say bi-weekly or monthly is a better idea btw.
JawD 99
Yeah me too. No point in trying to rush through each week. I'd be happy with either of those (2 or 4 weeks).
Happy Face 29
Jaw D, I reckon you should edit the opening post with a sub-title like: "Fortnight beginning 02/08/2010 - XXXXXXXXX"* and we'll be off rather than talking about it. You can keep editing the sub-title so people know the craic. *This is not to say the subject should be extreme porn, just a blank space for a real topic. peasepud 59
Definitely at least a couple of weeks at a time as sometimes I cant get a chance to get out and about.
Guest alex
Also while a theme would be nice obviously anyone can just post owt they've photographed of late as well as I think it's got more chance of keeping going than having a separate thread for NE photos, themed photos and general photos, etc.
