so we're spending 5m now on a deal that doesn't have to be done (and probably would've been anyways) till the summer

what excellent news and a perfect story to use to shut up the transfer talk earlier about why we're not spending!

Can't be transferred twice in 12 months can you....? Means if we go down, he has to stay for the Championship party. :icon_lol:

What Excellent news on Ben Arfa. 5 million as well and the window hasn't even opened yet.

Can't wait for the doom mongers to get spinning on this news. All year they've said we should but wouldn't and now that we have there will be all sorts of conspiracy theories flying around. That or just silence

I'll give you some scenarios just to keep you happy.

1. This is the sweetener before the lemon thats to come in January re Enrique, Carroll etc

2. Its just talk to shut us up.

3. Its an attempt to stimulate the sale of half yearly STs.

As Ant says, we're making a deal that didnt need to be made until the Summer, we have an agreement and there shouldnt be a need to change that especially as we've not seen the player since his horrendous injury. Maybe hes not going to be the player he was, maybe hes lost a yard of pace. Who knows? sense would say that you wait and check him out again after the injury. Unless of course Marseille are pushing it but again, regardless of the fact he got the injury while playing with us thats the gamble of loans. We're under no obligation to buy a player just because of that.

If hes half the player he looked before the injury then I'll still be happy with the purchase but I cant see any sense in it taking place now and not at the agreed time.

Agreed that we didnt need to do the deal now. Very odd.

If Enrique or Carroll are sold in January then there will be hell on. Ashley would show as about as much resistance as me getting a BJ off Megan Fox if a club put £12m on the table for Big AC.

If the Ben Arfa deal is done I will be happy that its tied up now rather than waiting until the summer. I think Pardew is aware we need another striker judging by his comments and I hope Ashley backs him, reckon it might be a loan rather than a purchase. Would be surprised if anything else happens other than loosing a couple of fringe players like Best/Lovenkrands which wouldn't be missed

And if hes crocked?

I cant see what is to be gained from it, there is an existing agreement that we can buy him after 25 games so whats spoiling? What would we have lost by waiting til we'd at least had him playing a few games post injury?

Im sick of this "AP has assurances" bollocks.

Dekka should just come out and say : " ANDY CARROLL ISNT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE" . But he wont because they will sell for the right price.

He's not at his peak value yet.

Because other clubs might be sniffing around him.

For the price that's been rumoured, I think we'd be made not buy him ASAP. Especially with regards to the position we're in, under Ashley's regimé who knows when the next time an opportunity to sign a player with as much talent will crop up.

It's a no brainer if you ask me. I really can't see why people are grumbling about this.

Most contracts can be riggled out of, If Ben Arfa wants to play for us then strike while the irons hot, after the original deal it looks like O.M. are fuckers to deal with

So why take him on loan in the first place? why agree a 25 game loan period witha guaranteed price at the end of it if you're just going to buy him for that price anyway? I agree totally that we should buy him but thats on the assumption that hes not lost anything with this injury.

Knowing our luck we'll pay the money then realise theyve sown his foot back on backwards or summat :icon_lol:

It's blindingly obvious, to see how he'd get on in the hurly burly of the PL and check his attititude. Both tests which he's passed with flying colours.

The only slight niggle I'd have with a quick signing is checking how the inj pans out.

Unless NUFC know something we don't on his progress, then I'd say we're jumping in too quickly when we could wait a few weeks after his comeback, (even then, he's going to take at least a few weeks to get back into it).

I'm with 2J- can't see the issue at all here. We know he is a quality player and comfortably worth £5m (Journal reckons just £3.5m!). He is also a player with a repuation for throwing huge strops when he wants to move so surely it makes sense for NUFC to use their ludicriously cheap option and if there is interest, he can have a paddy in the summer and the club can make a few quid on him- or we have just signed a quality player for relative buttons.

We can't seal the deal in Feb- it would have to wait until the summer window and would present a real risk of someone coming in for him.

I'd ask the question just how much worse a player would he have to be after his injury to not be worth buying?

Absolutely a chance worth taking.

What if the option to buy, price etc was subject to a certain number of games being played and that's not now going to happen? Rather have it tied up now.

i doubt they've put

"if you play him 25 games then you have to buy him...but if he plays less you can't" into the loan contract of someone they want rid of.

the first bit yes because they dont want someone being used week in week out and then sent back, the second bit would be stupid.

It will be some contactual short coming which means it's better to tie it up now.

If it was rock solid like you suggest then I have no doubt they would have waited.

Something must be right if Ashley has been convinced to spend £5m.

Although the Journal reckons £3.5m and I have heard £2.5m.

Either fee is a steal. Ben Arfa is a massive step up for us as a club, the games he played in he impressed massively.

And who doesn't need a player with lethal skills and a deadly long shot? Seriously man, youtube him again, we wouldn't be spending this money - especially so promptly - if the club doctors hadn't assessed the hell out of Ben Arfa.

£5m to Ashley is like city spending £34m on Dzeko.

I think the people who're complaining about this would be the same if we hadn't signed him. They'd bemoan that we were leaving things to the last minute and if Pardew didn't sign him straight away it's evidence that he was hoping someone else would come in for him.

This is undeniably a good signing

Newcastle United confident of luring SWP

02:30 PM 29 December, 2010

Newcastle United Football Club are said to be confident of luring Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 29-year-old may well still be a regular on the international scene for England, but he is far from seeing his fair share of action in a Manchester City shirt.

Roberto Mancini is prepared to let the winger leave Eastlands in the New Year, and reports have linked with the player with a move to a number of clubs.

Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager, is amongst those keen on the former Chelsea star, and he is said to be confident of beating the likes of Aston Villa and West Ham United to his signature.

Although City would prefer to offload Wright-Phillips on a permanent deal, the Magpies believe they can lure him on an initial loan deal for the rest of the season.

Once Premier League football has been secured at St James Park Pardew will be hopeful of more funds being released in the summer, when he will take the player for around £3million.

couldn't be bothered starting a new thread, nor finding the right one. If the mods/admin want to be useful, nows their chance :icon_lol:

Not everyone at the club is stupid - they'll have been keeping a close eye on his recovery/rehab thus far, and consulting with medical experts on a regular basis.

By all accounts his double break happened in one of the 'better' places one can break their leg, and is fully recoverable.

Besides, he's a clever player - even if he's lost a little bit of pace, he's still got plenty of other attributes.
