ChezGiven 0
He's still more likely to make a telling pass than anybody else in our midfield. I still believe he is the best attacking player at the club. Think that view will be vindicated this season but am circumspect enough to realise that it might also be proved very wrong. I'm backing him to do well anyway.

Sadly so far we've seen little from him for numerous reasons and he seems to take ages to recover his fitness and form after injury which is a problem when he keeps getting injured. OTF 7626
Still don't understand why people on this board talk about Barton as though he were any good. What's he done in black and white? "Our best player" - that's a laugh. Done nothing for us in black and white, but it's a sign of the predicament at the club that people (myself included) still see some potential in him. I could come up with some form of argument to discount his poor form for us as a result of his injury problems and off-field distractions enough so that I could see some promise for him this season, however chances are it's all just some form of misplaced pre-season optimism that will come crashing to the ground after seeing Barton play a few matches. Hope not though!
sniffer 0
If you can't be at least optimistic about Barton, then you'd better not look at the rest of the midfield.
Kitman 2207
Regardless of whether he's still got it, imo he should shut his trap until he's actually achieved something in black and white.

I'm with you two: expecting a lot from him this season, but recognise I might be setting myself up for a fall.

Guest alex
point is he should be letting his actions speak for him and not mouthing off. His Newcastle career in a nutshell there.
