The television licence fee could be cut under the government's public spending austerity drive, Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Mr Hunt attacked the BBC's "extraordinary and outrageous" waste.

He said he could "absolutely" see viewers paying less than the current £145.50 after next year's negotiations between the BBC and the government.

I know we discussed the BBC the other day and this was predictable, but it's utter wank.

How in fuck would cutting the licence fee save the government money? Transparently carrying out what they've been told to do in repayment to Murdoch.

Murdoch's bezzy mates in Downing Street calling the BBC a waste of the licence fee is ludicrous when it's a 7th of the cost of Sky and infinitley more valuable.

The point you make is so obviously right that it's barely worth making. Which is probably exactly what they're counting on.

Needs a 6music stylee grass roots campaign to oppose it since there's not a media organisation out there who'll say a dickie bird. Every one of them has a vested interest in lowering the quality of output the BBC are able to provide.
