Ayatollah Hermione 13762
Shamelessly stolen from Armchair Pundit in the Transfer Talk Thread Newcastle have won the race to sign former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell. Free agent Campbell, 35, who had been offered a two-year deal by Celtic, now lives in the North East and has been persuaded to continue his playing career there with Chris Hughton’s newly promoted side. Campbell got married yesterday and is expected to sign for the Geordies once he returns from honeymoon. He'd improve the back four, that's for sure and is the kind of experience that's useful in a relegation battle. I'm assuming that he comes with big wage demands though and I'm surprised Ashley would pay them. Providing it's true of course.
TheMoog 0
No worries I wonder if there's any chance of them utilising him in a coaching role as well perhaps, we are a little thin on the ground in that area after all.

Gejon 2
I think he would add something different to the defence and we need more players at the back anyway. He would organise us at the back. Good signing if the wages are reasonable.

sniffer 0
If Sulzeer had any pace at all I'd take him but he is far too slow these days. Well past his sell by date and just because he's opted to move to the north east isn't a reason to be interested in him.

Andrew 4713
he was fantastic for the arse last season...take him in a second I know hes old but I do agree not sure how he'd cope with a more prominent role playing more often but if we've brought him in as backup/experience then Im happy
LeazesMag 0
Cunt. Too old, way past his best and probably only coming for the money. I would expect some less than committed performances. Oh, and a "trophy signing" if ever there was one.
Andrew 4713
Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, roeder thought he was to old after he left arsenal the first time...
Kitman 2204
Sounds like we're rummaging in the bins now. I'd rather we invested in youth than a has-been well past his best, unless he's coming in as a player coach type of thang.
sniffer 0
Has Campbell pursued coaching qualifications? If not, why would anybody assume he'd be any use? Surely arse would've kept him on in a player/coach position if he had any aptitude for it. From what I read, he wants to play full time for two more years....whether he can at this level is another thing.

Oh, and a "trophy signing" if ever there was one. Way past his best, but he did want to move here before Pompey, IIRC, due to his missus. Roeder insinuated he was finished. Papa Lazaru 0
He was good enough for Wenger and Arsenal last season and was apparently doing well there, so i don't see how he's suddenly a shit signing for us, considering where we are, if its true. Obviously i'd rather have had him back when Roeder used his appalling judgement to say he was too old, but i'd take him now, he'll play some games, organise the back four and hopefully teach the younger defenders a thing or two. If he signs I'd like to see Colo and Sol in the middle with Saylor on the right.

Ayatollah Hermione 13762
Talk of him being offered the captaincy. Heard the same off my mate at the pub. He also reckons that a personality like Campbell's could clash with the atmosphere we have in the dressing room atm. All speculation obviously but the egos seemed to have been whittled from the dressing room. Edited July 18, 2010 by A NICE HAT
