do you need an ipod to use itunes ?

Does it time groups of tracks ?

No.

It does time groups of tracks. And sizes them too (so you can select 300mb to top up your MP3 player when it has that much space left).

You can also limit smart playlists based on size, time, most recently added, most recently played, most often played etc.

For example you can automate a playlist of the 20 tracks most frequently played.

Or the hour of 5 star tunes it's been longest since you listened to.

Or the Gig of most recently added music you've never played or skipped.

It's brilliant....but annoyingly memory intensive.

I tried this VLC and it didn't time groups of tracks

You should only use VLC for opening tracks from windows explorer. It opens faster than any other program. And if you're not editing tags, creating playlists, downloading podcasts there's no need to open a cumbersome program like Itunes.

Just use Itunes for browsing your entire collection in a cool way (embracing the dying joy of album artwork), tagging tracks most efficiently, creating playlists, managing podcasts and listening to music while you do it.

iTunes LPs will bring this back. Am hoping that when the next update comes for the iPad (sep) that it will have this functionality. Which will be lush.

so there isn't really anything out there that will select a group of tracks and automatically play and time them :icon_lol:

Not sure what you mean.

If you select a random group of tracks in Itunes it'll tell you the total playing time.

ok HF. I've selected a folder to play, consisting of various mixed tracks. I've made itunes my default audio player.

I'm looking - but how do I display the contents of that folder only ?

You've got to copy all your music into iTunes.

it did it automatically. I want it to display only the contents of the chosen folder and the total time.

Why? :icon_lol:

if you want to make a cd, just make a playlist.

because I sometimes make compilations. If I don't like something, I delete it. And just listen to whatever I feel like listening to until I decide what I want to keep from the folder. Then burn it to disk and keep it.

Pain in the arse this like. All the technology and can't do this, what the fuck did they change WMP for :icon_lol:

So next time you create these folders, create a playlist in iTunes. Get all the music in the folder and copy it into the playlist. iTunes will display the size of the playlist in mb and time.

aye, I'm realising thats the way it works.

Bit of a pain if I have 80 Northern Soul tracks and they are scattered all over itunes.......................for example

Still can't believe they have dropped this facility in WMP and there is fuck all else that will do this job easily.

Not really, just put "Northern Soul" as a genre, then filter by that.

I think you're over-complicating this.
