So now that Nicky Butt's got the Beeb were debating who our next club captain will be, who do we think though?

Beeb debate

I'm torn, I mean on one hand we need a definate shouter who can lead by example, however, long term would it be worth considering a younger player?

None of them when taking the atmosphere between the players into account, I'd give it to Taylor tbh, it would mean something to him.

Nolan for me. He was captain of Bolton and hopefully he has got his drive back. I truly hope Smith won't be in the team (although of course we all know he will be), Harper is my second choice, and Taylor being captain would be a joke.

I voted them all. Mainly because you fucked up on the poll :jesuswept:

Kevin honestly, you won't take this advice on board because you're an excitable chimp, but I'm getting really bored of you now.

I'd definitely give it to Nolan, am so concious of the fact should Smith get it he'll play more than he may already. Smith would refute this but I don't think his heart is in Newcastle like it was in Leeds or Man Utd, Nolan would thrive under the captaincy though.

It will be either Nolan or Smith depending on who starts.

We probably will see them both start though so in that case id imagine Smith will be club captain and Nolan vice.

You'd like to think barton would get on ahead of them though

Definitely! And Guthrie but im sure will stick with them two! :jesuswept:

I would have voted for Nolan but I don't think he will be able to play in the role he did last season.

He might settle into the deeper position that Smith has been playing, so it depends who between the 2 of them is going to play the most games and is the best in this role.

In the event of them both not playing too much, then Taylor if he stays at the club.

I'd give it to Colo, probably the best player at the club ability wise, keeping him confident and playing well could be the difference between us nicking a lot of draws next year and losing a lot of games.

Enrique's comfortably the best player at the club. Not saying that should be the criteria like.

he is, and yes it isn't always the criteria.

I like Nolans attitude, but just question how many games he will play or if he will perform well enough in that advanced role to justify it.

Same, its certainly not Colo (ability wise)

the problem with it being one of our CMs is that none of them actually do stand out ability wise and would be certain of holding a place week in week out

definitely Barton by a country mile

based on what?

think that was meant to be sarcastic...

I really think Taylor would be the best bet but for the fact he seems to be such a dislikeable twat and no one would respect him leaves me thinking I should have voted Nolan even though i feel he won't be up to the task of being a regular starter for us next season.

Based on I cant see Smith or Nolan starting ahead of Barton.

I think he is the only true leader we have out of that list. (ie willing to bark and encourage)

The Captain imo needs to be in the centre, able to communicate with all players so making the keeper captain seems daft.

The captain (like Keane) needs to be the nastiest most competitive player on the park imo.

As for Taylor for captain......Bloody hell!

Making Barton captain would make us an even bigger joke than we already are, the media would have a field day and in any case it will never happen. Add to that the fact that he's averaged 12 appearances per year since he joined us and has rarely looked even half the player he once was.

Barton without the baggage and with his former ability re-discovered could be a decent captain but in his current state it's a non starter.
