Christmas Tree 4920
So Im looking at giving this an overhaul which includes getting rid of the Sky plus (thieving bastards) and instead getting a freesat or freeview HD recording box. No more monthly subs. Think Im going to go with Freeview rather than Freesat due to more of the "normal" channels being on it. If anyone has tried these and knows of plus / minus points, tell all. Also Im looking at Home cinema but would love to get rid of the wires. I keep reading terms such as wireless ready?? Anyone any knowledge on this, surely they are either wireless or not? Christmas Tree 4920
Why are you getting rid of Sky+? I get mine half price ;] cos we dont really watch anything that you need to pay for and buy buying a seperate recording box we can pause, record etc without the monthly installment. peasepud 59
Buy a media PC and you'll get all the Freeview, recorder, DVD player, music player functions as well as games and internet on top.

Interesting that. Found this site..... http://www.mediacenter-tv.co.uk/whymediacentre.asp Which seemed a pretty good read so far, but if there as good as this sounds, then why isnt everybody doing this? Why are people still buying PVR's PRV'S etc? Also, do you have one and if so what makes are decent as the price differences seem vast. peasepud 59
Ive got an Acer one, had it about 3 years now and would recommend them to anyone. Mines a couple of years old now but works a treat. You could use any PC but obviously the idea of the media ones is that theyre small enough to just sit under your TV as a DVD player would. Microsoft Media Centre now controls all of the media in the house, Hard drive is full of movies, albums, TV shows, photos etc. It has a TV tuner and MMC provides a full SKY+ type facility, series record, pause/rewind live tv etc. Hook it up in the Lounge as we've done to a 42" LCD and you've got the works on a monitor thats big enough to have telly on while surfing. If you've got an XBox in another part of the house then MMC can make its library available through the Extender functionality so everything can be accessed via the XBox as well. That sounds very good. Does your TV come from sky / dish or Freeview or Freesat?
peasepud 59
Its freeview, the TV tuner card in the computer has all the freeview channels on it as standard. You could however hook SKY into it if you wanted but personally, I dont have a need for SKY. But if you do want it then its now integrated into Media Centre, no need for a dish or seperate box. http://skyplayer.sky.com/watch/windows-media-center/ However this looks like it could be a real alternative to Media Center. http://www.boxee.tv/

Christmas Tree 4920
Was in Currys yesterday and saw an LED tv on display. OMG! Forget Plasma or LCD, we just stood there open mouthed with amazement. You felt as though you could reach out and touch the characters on screen.
