Guest Gordon McKeag
Still not convinced why we didn't take Ashley Young, good techinical player with pace. He might have had an average season, but so did most of the others and some had inj issues to boot. Young was abysmal last season. The promise he showed prior to that was immense though. They don't and he was off form compared to the season or two before but they're very decent stats by anyone's standards. Goals and assists are as good a way to judge a winger as any tbf. Noelie 103
I think we should stick with Capello, at least until then next Euros........................................ The bottom line is he can only be as good as the resources at his disposal ................................. The resources at his disposal are every player in the world who is not injured, old enough, and eligible to play for England. That gives him a wide choice of players good or bad, but his choice of Phillips over Johnson, Lennon over Walcott, injury prone King. past it Carrager, and tuppense a ride Heskey, to name a few makes me think he didn't study his resources or alternatives well enough. I'll give you SWP over Johnson but is Walcott any better than Lennon? Especially on form leading up to the tournament. Also, you have a pop at him for some other selections but don't give alternatives. I think that illustrates Brummie has a point. I wasn't really taking a pop at Brummie Alex, what I was doing was pointing out that there are a lot of resources open to an England manager and it's a question of how good his search is. That bloke scoring goals for Blunderland might have been a better option than non-scoring tuppence a ride Heskey. Perhaps Cappello should have looked beyond the Premier League and established England players, there has to be those aspiring to reach stardom. . I know you weren't having a pop at him, Noelie and I think your point is valid too. Capello could have done better on a few points. And I think Darren Bent for Heskey is a decent enough shout but I'd really question Bent's ability at the highest level. All I was saying was Brummie has a point too because you could say A should've gone instead of B and how he could have made different selections etc. but I don't think it would've made much difference because the set of players at the manager's disposal (not just the 23) aren't good enough to win a World Cup. ewerk 31313
Fabio Capello to remain England manager Fabio Capello is to continue as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed. The Italian, 64, found himself under pressure following a disastrous World Cup campaign that saw England thrashed by Germany in their last-16 tie. On Monday he was told he would learn his fate in two weeks, only to be given full FA backing four days later. "We remain convinced that Fabio is the best man for the job," Club England chairman Sir Dave Richards said. More to follow.

sniffer 0
Capello was a joke. But as its all about the money and obviously not how you do the job, it's no surprise. At least Heskey will get to prolong his England career so he'll be happy.
