Well aster lots of humming and ha ing??? Me and the cruelty inspector have decided to have a shifty round Europe in the car.

The rough plan is something like

Brugges - Luxembourg - Annecy - Nice or Monaco - Lake Garda - stopover - Paris /Disneyland - Home

Covering about 14 days or so in total.

If anyone has any reccomendations for good stop offs along this route or particulat hotels, feel free to shout out.

If you're going to Lake Garda then take a stop off in Bergamo, proper little Italian town in the upper Alto with modern shopping area in the Lower.

Stay at the Piazza Vecchia hotel for a proper Italian feel

Looks really nice their PP. Already booked up for four nights at Spiaggia d'Oro Hotel

On the iPhone it doesn't look too far away from the one you describe. Still got 3 days to fill somewhere around st tropez, monte Carlo , nice etc, so any suggestions for that neck of the woods.

Spent yesterday in Bruges and must say it is probably the most beautiful place I've ever visited.

We stayed at a hotel 50 meteres from the main drag called the Botaniek which I would reccomend.

Ate at a restaurant a few minutes walk from the hotel called In 't Nieuw Museum which was superb. Food cooked infront of you on a charcoal grill. All washed down with a few glasses of beer called Grimbergen which was canny nice.

Seriously, if you havent been to Brugge, get yourself over, particularly with a woman, (or fella - pc edit) very romantic. Grab a drink and watch the groups of couples performing very sultry and intricate open air dances in the old fish market.

If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.

If you've actually been and haven't being impressed then I can only assume you did grow up on a farm and are retarded. :)

Aye, how can you not like Bruges? I had a nice stay there but ran into trouble at the border after we left, so the trip was spoiled somewhat. Lovely place with a fascinating history.

I'm off on a wee jaunt the first week/weekend of September.

Taking in the delights of Derby, then Newcastle... oh aye, I live it up.

You up for a match like? Either way, give me a bell if you fancy a bevvy.

There's no match, but I'll be definitely be out for a pint or two... might even swing by the Forth for a spot of inappropriate barmaid sleazing

If anyone else is about, pop along.

Decided to scrap going on holidays and go to a couple of festivals a year instead. That said, we'll probably end up in the lake district for at least a few days, as staying in a barn doesn't really break the bank.

So Bruges was quality.

A nowhere overnight stop the a place on the Austrian / French Alps border called Annecy. Again sheer class. Humongous mountains encase a crystal clear lake with an old canal strewn town with many a pavement cafe or eatery. Highky reccomended.

Marseille. Absolute shithole and full of beggars.

St.Tropez. Got to be on your must do list. To see a small little horseshoe harbour with all those monsterous boats moored up. Really breathtaking and the town is full of quaint side streets to meander along.

Drove through Cannes and Antibes during a thunderstorm. Both looked okay.

Arrived today in Nice and havent left the hotel. Its a Raddison with a lovely open air pool, terrace and restaurant on the top floor. It was pissing down this morning when we arrived, but got out really hot this afternoon so basically sat around the pool and acclimatised oneself to topless sunbathing (as you need to do when your getting on).

Got upgraded to a sea view room as its our 22nd anniversary today which litterally nearly overhangs the beach and has a great view of the jets taking off at Nice airport (Trainspotter).

Havent done France for about 10 years but must say really loving it this time.

Annecy is class like CT.

Don't know what your plans are, but if you're heading back up from the Riviera, you should make an effort to see the Verdon Gorge.

It's roughly an hour North of Marseille and is spectacular. Vertical limestone cliffs over 1000ft

I went climbing there and it blew me away.

If you come through east to west, I'd recommend staying the night at the village of Moustiere(s) Saint Marie. It's at the mouth of the gorge, by a lake and is beautiful.

Happy Touring you Tory swine :)

I'm going to Ibiza in September, never fancied it but caved in to peer pressure. I'm imagining floods of charvers with pill-jaw, hopefully it won't be though with it being towards the end of the season. Anybody been late September before? Does it stay busy? There's a few closing parties on in the big clubs I'm told.

Annecy really is a gem. I first went about 10 years ago with my oldest two daughters who were about 12 and 9 at the time. It pissed down and it was only a stopover so they all hated the place.

This time it was just our lass and the youngest (6). The weather was gorgeous and sunny, we took a hire motor boat on the Lake, the mountains around the lake are beautiful and with it being sunny we could eat and drink and various pavement cafes. Like most places, totally different when the suns out.

We then drove down passed grenoble through the Alps? and would have been not too far off that Gorge. I kep having to double take at those mountains along that drive as they are just jaw droppinginly huge.

Unfortunately we are off to Lake Garda in a few days and then possibly back up through Austria switserland or germany (no definite plans yet), however as the wife is 29 weeks to the good, gorge walks are on hold for the moment. (Looks impressive mind having googled it).

Just read this on wiki....Sounds pretty cool. Might see if theres a way to fit it in. Is it possible for fat tourists to get a boat trip up the gorge from this place?

Just had another look on the map and its about 200 miles back track from Garda so it will have to wait for a future trip. :)

It's great in September. Closing parties can be superb.

If you stay away from the West End in San An you'll not come accross too many arseholes. It's one of the cheaper places to drink but still fairly dear.

Drinks in the clubs are beyond extortionate so if you want to get pissed, do it beforehand and be prepared to just top yourself up.

Ibiza still gets a bad press from some people but I loveit. I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as Malia et al.

Congratulations you dirty old dog!

If you're heading from Garda up thru Austria and Switzerland you'll be passing through the Dolomites.

Stunning mountains

Enjoy.

I was in Ayia Napa last summer and it was fantastic there, I see Ibiza as a bit of a different kettle of fish though and really not sure if it's my type of crowd at all ;) I prefer a pub crawl to all the raving type of stuff :)
