Renton 22010
Think it was called The Wine Chambers. There's one in Tynemouth as well apparently. I buy my Cuban cigars from the Tynemouth one. Surprised and disappointed there is a Shields one.

Alex 35616
Renton, if you're in the vicinity, and feeling even snobbier than normal, I suggest you check out Carruthers and Kent just off Gosforth High Street.

Alex 35616
The occasional cigar is a different ball game but how people afford to smoke tabs is beyond me. Still, as smoking goes down obesity and teenage drinking etc. are on the increase. The UK seems to have a collective addictive personality. ADP 0
How any mildly intelligent person smokes in this day and age ......... actually trying to quit right now. Decided the other night and went mental and threw out my tobacco. Feel really nauseous 48 hours later but I've heard that that might occur? Don't feel like i need one really, hardest is straight after breakfast but once you ride that one out it's good. Mind, I'm only two days in.... Once the nicotine is out of your system it's just losing the habitual side.
Dr Gloom 22185
How any mildly intelligent person smokes in this day and age ......... it's a vice man. same goes for drinking, and eating junk food. none of those things are good for you. all are linked to cancers and heart disease. and yet we continue to consume them of the two, drinking is slightly less idotic
Dr Gloom 22185
i haven't had a tab in three months. smoked three joints on my birthday though the other day (mixed with tabs) and have felt rotten ever since. tight chest and fuzzy head need to knock it all on the head. it contradicts my otherwise quite healthy lifestyle. couldn't give up the wine and whisky mind. I don't really buy or smoke Cuban cigars. Just mildly surprised such a specialist shop (fine wines, whisky, and cigars) should exist in North Shields. Smoking is worse for your health than drinking excessively, eating shit, and doing no exercise combined. As far as addictions go, it's pretty moronic. ChezGiven 0
No addiction is moronic, not according to Becker anyway. http://directory.umm.ac.id/articles/Becker_1988.pdf What was incredible to me after years of smoking was the realisation that it was the fear of giving up that paralyzed me from acting. Once I broke the habit I knew how easy it was. Not actually easy but a lot easier than you think. I started again for a week on holiday this msummer and then after a week or so of smoking again, I gave up again. Since then I have no fear of starting again as I know I don't have to continue, which is maybe not a good thing. Bottom line is i would now say I don't smoke even though the odd time I do. ADP 0
In previous attempts of quitting, what has made me sketch out is when I'm out and about and I know that i don't have a tab on me. It's the element of choice that I find rather difficult. It's like, even if i had the tab with me, i wouldn't necessarily smoke it. It's just the feeling that it is there if i needed it. I dunno, it's weird. This time feels different though. Don't really have that much of an urge to go and buy some, or feel panicky because I haven't got any. Hopefully I'll continue like this. Maybe the wrong adjective but the benefit/risk ratio must be the worst of any drug. I say this as an ex smoker, the main reason I smoked was to alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal rather than pleasure (unlike a drink or a joint for instance). Mate of my brother is terminally ill with lung cancer. He's 42. Edited November 15, 2012 by Renton
ChezGiven 0
I remember very clearly when you first mentioned that on here. It helped me to give up properly, I'd reduced the smoking to one or two per day but couldn't stop altogether. I should thank you for that as the real motivation is my daughter but you saying that, or maybe the way ou said it had quite an impact. It can't be much more than a year ago, if that? I gave up finally in March after a couple of years of trying but not really. Any excuse to post the Becker article anyway, I love that paper. When it comes to drugs I'm in the "it's your body, do what you want" camp but I would quite happlly see everyone involved in the the tobacco industry since it was discovered to be a carcinogen killed with nail guns.
