Rayvin 5296
I finally, finally, finished my motherf*cking dissertation... So I am delighted and incredibly tired. Thank you all for tolerating my increased presence on here as I used the place as a mental crutch upon which to stay sane Edited January 27, 2014 by Rayvin
Meenzer 15718
A double espresso in my grubby mitts and Marvin Gaye live at Montreux on the telly (chalk up another win for Sky Arts). I think I can face the new week well enough. Congrats Rayvin, that must be quite the weight off your shoulders. Don't be a stranger now that you don't need us any more - maybe we need you.... Rayvin 5296
Yeah I didn't mean I was going anywhere in fairness, I'll check in every day, but perhaps you've noticed that I've been on here at all hours for the past 6 weeks... I think more so than anyone else on the board. Probably could do with scaling back a bit. And thanks Edited January 26, 2014 by Rayvin

Rayvin 5296
So what was it all about? It was a study on the implications of national and organisational culture for cross cultural trading relationships in academic publishing. Needless to say, I'm glad it's over. Rayvin 5296
On the word count - no, believe it or not I have enough useless information on that topic to write 15k words... Maybe now you can finally buy a house you bum! I did it while working a full time job so my circumstance has changed absolutely zero, except that now I have a huge debt to my company if I leave in the next two years - during which time they will pay me fuck all because they know I won't stump up the money. But hey, it's what I signed up for. And probably also the reason I will remain a houseless bum

Meenzer 15718
Even in a wider comparison, this country is fairly unusual in the extent to which it's in thrall to house price inflation as a measure of perceived growth, stretching yourself financially to Get On The Ladder, home ownership as a status symbol and so on. But hey, it's what I signed up for. And probably also the reason I will remain a houseless bum Regarding the owing them money if you leave thing. You should have a look at that. I know that was the case when I was going through the chartered accountancy shite but the ICAEW advised their members that such an employment clause would not be enforcible in court. Restraint of employment or sumfink. It obviously depends on whether you like your employer or feel that you owe them some loyalty but if you want to move on then you shouldn't let that hold you back. NJS 4411
Even in a wider comparison, this country is fairly unusual in the extent to which it's in thrall to house price inflation as a measure of perceived growth, stretching yourself financially to Get On The Ladder, home ownership as a status symbol and so on. Which only "makes sense" if you never move once you do buy as even with equity the house you want may be out of reach due to said price inflation. One of the benefits of 100% inheritance tax would be an ending of the over-desired need to leave a legacy which leads to over-stretching/inflation. I know limiting inheritance goes against a lot of people's instincts but why didn't it bother previous generations and why doesn't it bother other the cultures mentioned where house ownership isn't as prevalent?
