Park Life 71
Not very green is it? So fuck Or ring-fence the money so it can only be used for renewable energy projects or something. How about stop taxing people and start taxing banks and ringfencing their ringpieces.

Making shit up on the fly like this, you should go for RHMP KN! My other deficit-busting pitch is legalising brothels. Build them on industrial estates, give the hookers regular health checks and free counselling, maybe the punters too. And tax the shit out of it. Let the government be your pimp! Mr Lahey 0
Ban cyclists in city's. Everywhere else, if there's a path, make them use it. If they don't adhere, railway spike through the face. Everyones happy.
wykikitoon 20129
Ive just spent 4 days in the Netherlands watching the Giro d'Italia. Bikes fucking EVERYWHERE, it works very well and the people in cars, vans, trucks etc work well with them. They give you a wide bearth as if they were overtaking a parked car (something thats in our highway code IIRC), they give you right of way etc. Something this country SERIOUSLY needs to look at. Southergeordie. I say you boil my piss because you say us cyclists are twats and should be off the road. Its you wankers with fucking engines that need to retake your test. Yes I do having a FULL CLEAN driving license and I am VERY aware of cyclists and other road users because I check my mirrors regually. Also I have specialist cycle insurance that covers PI etc, its sometiing all cyclists should have IMO.

Holland is flat as a pancake and has virtually been designed with bicycles in mind so I'm not convinced any comparison is relevant. I can see the benefits of cycling to work but for me the drawbacks are just too great.

I think it's definitely more the mindset in Holland rather than the flatness - a lot of this country is pretty flat and even somewhere like the NE which is within easy reach of proper hills, is still very cyclable for commuters - I used to bike to work from S Shields to the Regent Centre and a lot of it was via paths - only a bit of extra effort could increase the use of bikes across a lot of Tyne & Wear imo. Of course you would also need more places with shower facilities as well.
Gemmill 44865
There's a couple of bloke here that cycle to work. They turn up covered in sweat and to my knowledge don't get showered when they get here. Disgusting.

If you read my post correctly, you'd have seen that I was talking about cyclists being dangerous to pedestrians, not drivers! I also said that cyclists should be treated the same as drivers with respect to going through red lights etc... not that cyclists should be off the road. They should be on the road and stay off our pavements... Chill Winston Edited May 19, 2010 by Southern Geordie

Another point that should be made is that pedestrians can be twats too - I had to swerve violently on my bike a few months ago to avoid a lass who stepped out in front of me without a care in the world. True, but in the UK the onus of safety is alway on the vehicle and jay walking is not an offence.

That does suprise me a LOT. I saw one fat person whilst I was there (granted I was only there for 4 days and around Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Delft etc). They all looked well and happy. The Scandis have the happy healthy lifestyle sewn up. Probably helped by the fact that they have 2 months off every summer.
