Renton 21643
None of this mackem shit either. I still think mixing with them is healthier than a Stevie style Apartheid - doesn't mean you have to like them of course. Perhaps, there was little real animosity when I lived in Chester-le-Street. With the exception of the Strawberry I find the over-the-top tribalism seen in some pubs as cringeworthy.

The Fish 10876
In Newcastle The Forth Hotel Secco (or whatever it's called now) In Leeds The Oak in Leeds, unbelievable number and standard of totty in here loads of live sports, live comedy and an incredible beer garden. The HiFi club, best night out in Leeds iyam. Bit pricey, but great music and good crowd. In London Water Poet near Liverpool street, another good mix of people. The Sun in Clapham, ignore the God awful external, good food, good range of booze and nice little beer garden.
Park Life 71
Trying to be objective, which city is the best for pubs? I nominate Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, and Belfast. Loved Edinburgh but found a lot of them shut fairly early, another place that reminded me of Edinburgh that's great though is Galway, Cobbled streets lined with bars and such. No Bar will ever replace Katy's as my favourite i think, due to going there since i was 17. But yeah i'd echo Belfast, Dublin and Edinbrough/Galway. Certain cities i've been drinking in (like Cardiff recently it was a bit nuts) there seems to be a higher ratio of plastered arseholes around, and I tend to be watching what they're doing/on edge when I'm out with mates making sure no one gets hassle rather than relaxing when were wandering around the place. There are some good places around that castle. But a bit too studenty/gaylordscarf/irritating at weekends.

Renton 21643
@ Fish. Pub beneath Secco is Alvinos. More of a bar really, I prefer it to Popollos though. Anyone been to Linekers across the road yet?

Dr Gloom 21965
i'm a sahf londoner, so my favourites here are a bit biased for 2 for 1 cocktails and good late night music, the funky munky, camberwell - for late night carnage, white horse, brixton - for a nice relaxing sunday session, the florence, herne hill - when i'm back home, the diamond, ponteland....it even has a late night bar these days called 'the rock' pre match, i'd go along with the bodega
Tooj 17
Haven't been for years but served my drinking apprenticeship there and had many happy days and nights. Mackem pub. Definitely - when we first started drinking there in about 81 we got a bit of grief but my mate was a minier who knew the lads who got in there so we got over it and had some good crack with them. Not exactly a theme but we migrated from there to The Westoe and then onto The County, the latter being pretty much Mackem central. The County and The Westoe are both alright actually. Craig 6682
The last one was undoubtedly the best pub in the world, ever. RIP Barley Mow. Indeed - many a brilliant night spent in there. Craig 6682
Could do with more recommendations for central London because everywhere I have been has been shit. Whenever I have to go into the city, I make a bee-line for this place: http://www.tipped.co.uk/listings/11403/but...-s-hook-cleaver One of the Fuller's 'Ale & Pie' houses - and the pies are fucking awesome
