Match Day heaven.

Canny for tribute bands too.

Only pub where I literally got the 'Did you spill my pint?' treatment.

I reckon you attract it though. :o:D

That's why it's only happened once? :D

As it happens I have since got to know the Landlord so if it happens again I'll get the culprit chinned.

Don't let Leicster Sq depress you.

First up, an admission: you can't get a pint here. No Adnam's, no Young's, no Pride - not even a Guinness. Not a pub then, but a wine bar. But what a bar. This place has been setting the standards for wine bars since the early 1970s and the onus of the place is still on quality wines, lovely food and an agreeable atmosphere to enjoy them in. Even more remarkable is that this haven is located so close to the tacky horrors of Leicester Square. And whilst this place isn't a pub it shares the qualities of all good pubs: first rate food and drink, staff that actually care about their customers (whether they be regulars or first-timers) and an overall atmosphere of cheery drink taking. The only downside being that as the place has been so good for so long, the secrets out so turning up early (or phoning ahead) is sometimes necessary to guarantee a space. Otherwise though, this one shares qualiti

Haven't been for years but served my drinking apprenticeship there and had many happy days and nights.

Mackem pub.

Definitely - when we first started drinking there in about 81 we got a bit of grief but my mate was a minier who knew the lads who got in there so we got over it and had some good crack with them.

Not exactly a theme but we migrated from there to The Westoe and then onto The County, the latter being pretty much Mackem central.

Where's that NJS?

Could do with more recommendations for central London because everywhere I have been has been shit.

South Shields sea front :o

With a small Leeds flag behind the bar for some reason I'm yet to find out.

Those three plus the Fountain (another pointedly mackem pub) and The Bamburgh were pretty much my pubs of choice ten years back.

The lad who runs the New Crown now is a Geordie....but he uses the coach from the Ashley for games.

Unless its changed, the manager (Colin) is a huge Leeds fan - hard little twat who takes no shit from the Mackems if they act up.

Tynemouth's worth a visit, seems to have completely survivived the credit crunch. The Stuffed Dog (Turks head), Hugos (formerly Baxters), and The Priory (formerly the Percy Arms) are good. None of this mackem shit either.

Makes sense then.

Fantastic bar staff too. Always top totty on at busy times and the fella with the tache for sports talk on quiet weekday afternoons.

I still think mixing with them is healthier than a Stevie style Apartheid - doesn't mean you have to like them of course.
