Good. See all these axis countries, they were cunts 60 and 70 years ago, and they still are to this day, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, Turkey etc. even if the modern confrontations are now on a football field. England embody our heritage and spirit, we drift along, struggling to achieve against minnows, look at our struggles in Ireland, yet when we have our backs to the wall against an equal or perceived bigger opponent we come in to our own and fight like lions.

Looking further ahead the QF's could easily look like this....

Uruguay v USA

Argentina v England

Brazil v Holland

Portugal v Japan

Brazil won't win it. Way too fragile as a team. He'll start those two defensive Dm's all tournament and most of it will come down the middle. Not enough variation. Kaka and Robinho aren't a patch on what they used to be. I know he got a couple the other day but I don't rate the striker either.

Brazil are shite. Worst Brazil I've ever seen tbh. Argentina or Spain have the best play but have vulnerable defences, it truly is anyones WC, but look at it like this in the last 50 years there's never been a final without Brazil or Germany in regardless how shit they are.

Obviously the really sad truth is the exact opposite and we usually lose to bigger opposition. In fact Germany and Italy (of those you quoted) have much more strength in battle than us on a football pitch.

Fact is we need a reversal of history...and hopefully thats exactly what we'll see this time around. Our biggest hope might just be Germany's inexperience.

Do we? I don't really regard anyone as bigger than England, but I'd hardly say Portugal are bigger, and we never actually lose to Germany we usually end up drawing with them and going out. Brazil are our nemesis.

any idea why throughout the world cup the BBC website has had no football headlines on the home page? Instead it's all wimbledon this rugby/F1 that. You'd think it wasn't even happening.

It does for me. Have you paid your licence fee?

Thats one way of looking at it I spose!

You're always top value during an international comp Stevie! Just hope we get through and you can rouse us again for battle in the next round! :icon_lol:

I believe Portugal will win today, I think they're just as well organised as Brazil, but this is Ronaldo's time to show on the big stage of all he's as good as anyone, and I think he will.

Apart from when the World Cup is in countries we've been to war with I meant.

Or hadn't been to war with but were going to go to war with in the future? Aye, I'm sure you meant that. ;) I've told you before about drinking on school nights :icon_lol:

In hindsight has any fucka hosted a WC we technically haven't had some military contact with....

Commentators and pundits saying how disappointing the first half was. It's proper niggly like but the technical passing is lush.

We're right mongs sometimes.

I saw about half of the half and my impressions are England have NO chance against these teams. That's not being pessimistic either because in reality I couldn't give a shit about England either way, it's just realism.

I've always got that in mind when watching the top teams and I struggled to see where we'd have got a touch at all to be totally honest. Unless it was in a fundementally niggly game, in which case the studio should have been jizzing over the fact this one was at all niggly.

I was watching the Germany - Ghana game and noticed how well the Germans pass the ball. They might be a young team, but we really need to get a grip of the midfield or I fear they'll just pass it round us. We need to sort our shape and our tactics and run at them. They are more methodical, a bit like Germany of old but I think we are a bit quicker.
