Guest The Three Lions
That North Korean centre-forward looked decent. Shame about his Brazilian counter-part. Fabiano's 1 in 2 strike rate for Seville is a mystery to me, he deffo looks shit. If it wasn't for the ultra defensive Dunga they should be starting matches with Nilmar and Lenny upfront and then maybe we might see some classic Brazil. Brazil won't win this competition. They're shite.
Park Life 71
If the Koreans had better finishing skills, they would have at least drawn that match. Some of their shooting was awful. Maicon's goal was a cross, just look at his eyes. He was trying to play it into the 6yr box. Them's the breaks though. I feel for the Koreans though if the NK Govt follow through their stance on only showing games NK win. They deserve to see their teams performance as they acquitted themselves well I thought. On a different note, I'm pleased that all the games are on terrestrial TV only. ITV have their faults but at least all the games are available to all, which is they way it should be imo. Broadcasting them all in HD is nice too I thought it was a great goal at first but not after the replay. It was so much where he was looking as players will 'do' keepers with the eyes. It was more the way it didn't come off the outside of his boot, whereas it looked like it had in real-time. Fluke though anyway. The keeper will be in trouble when he gets back. Park Life 71
Paul Ince is as bad as anyone for the racism card. "Haa caam there aint no top black managers?" Cos you're all fuckin shit, he even blamed his sacking at Blackburn on the fact he was black, nothing to do with the the fact they were relegation certainties. Aye, and the reaction to Keith Alexander's death a few months ago underlined the point - a genuinely bloke who knew his limitations and ploughed out a respectable lower-league management career without ever playing the race card, and nobody had a bad word to say about him. There's still plenty of kneejerk prejudice within the game, but most chairmen would hire a skittle-juggling transvestite nun as their manager if they delivered the results. Hat in the ring Martin? Park Life 71
Good post on the Korean striker from a Korean on NO. "His situation, coupled with that of the Korean diaspora in Japan is... complex to say the least. Short version, he has a South Korean passport because his parents are nominally South Korean because they (or their parents) who had been living in Japan because they/their parents were brought there as laborers during the occupation chose "South" when we were divided after Independance. So despite being South Korean they have very little allegiance to South Korea in particular and most likely have never been there, which lead them to send him to a North Korean school in Japan. (because North Korea offers more support to its Japanese diaspora than South Korea, including offering free schooling, probably because they need the better PR.) Having attended a North Korean school from a young age, Jeong identifies himself as North Korean despite living in Japan all his life and having no intention of ever moving to North Korea, just like thousands of other Korean Diaspora in Japan who've attended North Korean schools do. I can understand the reaction to the national anthem. The "Jainichi" are a heavily marginalized minority in Japanese society and he's probably lived with a lot of discrimination his whole life. It was probably a combination sheer joy out of just being there + the feeling of achievement that he's finally in a position to sing the national anthem he learned as a schoolboy without anyone looking at him funny. Like I said, complex Razz"

Like I said, complex Razz" I was reading the other day after the war there were 600,000 Koreans in Japan, and after the yanks fucked off and the Japs dropped their claims of owning Korea in the 50's, many of the Koreans in Japan were refused Jap nationality, and the Koreans told them to do one as well, so they were stuck with no nationality. Guest The Three Lions
It's even more strange when you consider the chinks passion for football is massive. Apparently more people watched our game with Paraguay in the last WC in China than the pop. of England and Paraguay combined multiplied by 2. Park Life 71
Wikitastic The national team has produced some displays of controlled and creative football in friendlies, especially during the 0–0 draw against Brazil in November 2002, the 1–1 draw against Germany in May 2009, and the 1-0 win to France in June 2010. After the 0–0 draw with Brazil, Cafu complimented the Chinese performance and said they were definitely capable of qualifying for the 2006 World Cup.[citation needed] The team, however, failed to advance through the preliminary qualification stage, losing to Kuwait on goals scored, even though China scored seven goals in a blow-out against Hong Kong in the last qualifying match. While qualifying for the 2007 Asian Cup, the team became the subject of immense criticism in the media and a national embarrassment when it scored only one goal (a Shao Jiayi penalty kick well into final injury time) against Singapore at home in Tianjin, and tied the Southeast Asian city-state in the away game. In preparation for the 2007 Asian Cup, the team spend the weeks leading up to the tournament on a tour of the United States. While the 4–1 loss to a streaking United States was not unexpected,[7] a 1–0 loss to a Real Salt Lake team that finished bottom of the MLS that season raised many eyebrows.[8][9]

Meenzer 15449
Ivory Coast were pretty lethargic and unmagical themselves, though, like they invariably are at a World Cup or African Nations level. Then again, to most observers, this has always been the group of "meh" rather than the group of death - the North Koreans were inevitably going to be the only antidote to the overrated gush of exaggerated build-up play and little end product of the other three teams, and long may they continue to throw Dear Leader's spanner into the works.
