Invading Argentina might not be such a bad idea as it happens. The world economy needed a war to pull us out of the last Great Depression. Method in the madness.

Science and technology'll make a massive leap forward an' all

won't know for while - depends on test results, further wells and economics - but it's a great place to start from - 150m gross, 53m net and excellent porosity (i.e it should flow like s***)

Drilling Programme Update

Sea Lion Exploration Well - 14/10-2

Oil Discovery

Rockhopper Exploration, the North Falkland Basin oil and gas exploration company, is pleased to announce that well 14/10-2 on the Sea Lion prospect has reached a depth of 2,744 metres. Initial data collected indicate that this well is an oil discovery, which would be the first in the North Falkland Basin.

The Company has run a suite of wireline logs and logging data collected thus far indicate that the well has encountered a 150 metre gross interval of sand and shales. The data show that the well has 53 metres of net pay distributed in multiple pay zones, the thickest of which has a net pay of 25 metres. These pay zones have an average porosity of 19%.

Rockhopper now intends to collect additional logging information prior to making a decision whether to plug and abandon the well, or to suspend the well for future testing. The Company is also considering whether to drill an appraisal well on Sea Lion later during the current drilling campaign. Further information will be distributed in due course.

It remains the intention of the Company to drill the Ernest prospect in the fourth slot of the overall Falklands Drilling programme.

The Argie military isn't up to much these days, is it? I suspect they'll talk big and do fuck all.

I've heard of scouse mackems, but these really are the South American Iraqi's if you ask me.

Get the old Tridents parked up 20 mile of the River Plata, they'll sharp pipe down.

Trident can hit them from the Thames estuary mate.

7500 miles, I didn't realise the range was so far. We could do anyone really apart from places no one cares about like Hawaii.

That Oil has been known about since before the falklands war (and some suspect the reason we went down there to reclaim it) but the technology and the cost required meant it wasn't viable, however with the price of a barrel of oil and the technology now available it becomes a whole new ball game

"That Oil has been known about since before the falklands war " - bollocks

you need to drill to prove oil and there was no drilling off the Falkalnds until the 90's

For such a know-all you'd think you'd be able to get to grips with the quote function :(

I can't remember talk of oil around the islands before the war but the suggestion was of mineral rights in the Antarctic itself which the Falklands would provide a claim basis/logistical centre for.

that was why the Antarctic Treaty was signed in 1961 - to stop people digging the place up

the latest announcement from Rockhopper indicates a really good find - ....................

Hmmmm - noit sure what the Contract is for the Falklands

FOGL claim :-

Excellent fiscal terms – corporation tax 26%, Royalty 9%

• Positive economics with a post tax NPV10 of $8/bbl*

• A 100mmbbl field is about the minimum fieldsize and would be

economic down to an oil price of c. $25/bbl

• Political stability with strong support from FI & UK Governments

• Excellent logistics: deep water harbours & international airport

• Access to a range of oil and gas markets
