Christmas Tree 4711
You are confusing meeages the fans wnat to hear with the market place far better to go to a club saying "look man, we're desperate. that FF Ashley has given me washers to spend and if I stretch it I just about pay 50% of what you're asking for Drogba - giz a break eh?" rubbish. Nobody said fuck all about Drogba either he is out of reach of most clubs even if he wanted to leave Chelsea. I didn't even mention "trophy signings". You are making excuses. There is nothing to be ashamed of if you declare your intention to be successful and step up your actions to show you are serious. You're being ornery Leazes, there is no benefit to set out your stall as having bags of cash. It's blatantly obvious man. You walk into a car-dealership reeking of money they're going to up the price, you look hobo they're going to be glad of a sale. You can say "We want to achieve great things", but that's not what has been said, what has been said is "Well there won't be many signings" to suggest we have little funds, whether we do or not. It just makes sense to obfuscate our actual transfer war chest. Off Topic but, Walked into three dealerships today and looking to spend 20-30 grand on a minibus and none of the sales staff could be bothered to get off their arses. Actually went a spoke to one of them (sitting at his desk, looking at the newspaper) in one dealership in Dunston and the conversation went like this..... Moi Hi, have you goy any minibusses Him No Moi So where do I go to get a new ford Mini Bus? Him We sell them Moi When can I see one? Guest alex
Must have missed the first big signing like... wait, we haven't made one yet? So it makes sense to downplay our financial situation? who'd have thought yep. You are quite right, we haven't made any. In fact, we sold them all and now he is going to have spend all the money and more that he got for them to get back to where we were in the first place the stupid fat cunt, and even more stupid are those who can't see it. What are you blithering on about you decrepit old fool. Every body in the world knows that we need a few areas strengthening, but everybody and their wife knows that by declaring you've stacks of cash hikes the price on any players you're after. Which is what this thread is about. I think it's about Hughton saying it how it is. Like I said, I accept the logic to not saying we've got x amount of cash because that could, in certain circumstances, push the prices up, but I don't think that scenario is the one here. We're not spending much so don't expect much is it in a nutshell.

If a big club like NUFC wants to be perceived as such it has to compete as such so they are interested in playing for you. Do you seriously think Mike fuckin Ashley is going to get this club back into europe by buying nothing other than players from 2nd division/championship clubs for 3m quid a head on 15k a week ? How fuckin dumb are you ? Because one thing is for sure, this statement is nothing other than his way of keeping our expectations as low as possible so long as he is selling tickets, merchandise and stay in the premiership, which was the height of his ambition as soon as he walked through the door. Park Life 71
The thing is the realistic target next season would be Pl survival and maybe a top 12. It's doable on a budget, but you need a gifted manager for that.....Coppell first season in the Pl with reading iirc or this season and Brum/Fulham etc...Stoke didn't spend much either. I'd try for Hodgson.

brummiemag1 0
Its all very well for people to say we will build year on year and develop a good youth policy and sign hungry young players etc, but all the other clubs are already doing that. The problem is that if we want to make serious progress in the next few years we need to spend the money on quality players this summer, this season, next season and every season. Ultimately the clubs who are regularly competing for the major honours in the game in this country (and I include the FA and League Cup in that) are the clubs that spend big. If Ashley doesnt spend the money this summer, then he wont do it in the future either, it will confirm his lack of ambition and means we will have no chance of competing for major honours in a few years time and the best we can look forward to is survival and years of mediocrity. I suppose it depends on whether you think football's bubble will burst and the days of spending 30-40m on players every season will become a thing of the past for every club except maybe two or three clubs. Maybe we've hit the high water mark already on that score, and if Sky are unwilling in the future to tip so much money into the game then players on big ticket wages might be a thing of the past too. However I can't pretend MA is some kind of visionary, he's been an incompetent oaf surrounded by more incompetent oafs who is hell bent on reproducing his Sports Direct model at our club. imo. Unlike dear old CT, I don't think we have much to look forward to under MA and I agree with your comments about youth development in particular (which we don't seem a lot better at today than yesteryear, judging by the amount of reserve players about to be released who never got a sniff at the first team). I'm fully aware that to attract big players you've got to sell the club's ambition to them. But at no point have I said anything to the contrary. He wants an argument about whether the current owner is better than the previous. I'm saying that you should never declare you're minted if you're looking to buy things because the prices are being hiked. he's being the normal Leazes, he wants to have the same argument in every thread he ever "contributes" to. The statement released is saying "We're not gonna spunk 9 million on a left winger when in reality we can't afford it and a £9 Million winger will not be convinced we're staying up unless we spunk another £30m on other positions.". My "screaming from the rootops that his favourite owners aren't here any more" is nothing more than quite correctly saying they are the best owners the club has had despite the criticism for "embarrassing all of us" that thousands of stupid cunts complained they did. Fact is people like you should have realised this by now. It might take 20 or 30 years to get into those champions or european qualification positions and people like you are stil stupid enough not to realise that we had good directors. But your bigger problem is you know now that you were wrong, and you won't admit it. The statement is quite clearly telling us to forget about aiming for europe etc and attempting to fulfill the potential to live up to what ought to be expectations befitting one of the biggest clubs in the country.
